I know no one cares but me, but I'm posting it anyway...

UH Pro Day

I don't have all the exact details on every player but I spoke with some of the people who attended the event and work for NFL teams and they said that almost everyone had a good workout with just a couple of exceptions.

* Kevin Kolb threw the ball well and showed his NFL arm strength as he was able to cut it loose in his passing drills. Jerry Rhome took him through the paces and Kolb did what he needed to do for the NFL teams in attendance.

* Jackie Battle was the star of the show. The Cougars ran on an artificial turf and the times I received on Battle from an NFL source who timed him was 4.46 and 4.40. The source said that his team averages the time and adds .10 for the surface so he is posting it as a 4.53 which was "very, very surprising". Nobody expected Battle to run that fast and I don't think anyone expected his 41" vertical leap either.

* Vincent Marshall ran in the 4.3s and that was AFTER THE SURFACE ADJUSTMENT! The only problem for Marshall is his size. His lack of size will probably keep him from being drafted.

* WR Biron Ealy ran in the 4.5s which became a 4.6 with time adjustment. Still, that was not at all disappointing to the teams in attendance and two scouts who I know are already trying to position themselves as the front runner to add Ealy as a free agent if he isn't drafted. Teams like Ealy's potential and they are fine with his speed after today.

* Will Gulley didn't run well (4.7) but there are some teams who are considering moving him to OLB in the 3-4 defense.

It is clear that track coach Leroy Burrell and strength coach Larry Jackson have done a terrific job of getting the Cougars ready not only for this pro day, but also for the upcoming season. The hiring of Larry Jackson before last offseason was one of the best moves UH could have made for the football program.

What position does Marshal play? How big is he. Blinding speed can keep you in the NFL for several years on that alone (witness Randal Williams)

If we draft Kolb in the 3rd, and Tony continues to produce like he is, in 3 years we'll be turning Kolb around for a 1st rounder just like Atlanta is doing right now with Schaub.

I would take that bet.

He is a shotgun quarterback. Every scouting report I have read on him says all he does is throw short and medium passes, barely even attempting to throw vertical routes. He needs to learn to drop back and play traditionally. Accurate on short routes.

Doesnt sound like a future first round trade guy to me....

Sounds just like Matt Schaub who played in a West Coast Offense in college.

By the way, the guy averaged 8.82 yards per attempt in his senior year. Kinda hard to do that by only throwing short passes.

I know zip about this guy other than he's a 6'2 245 lb RB, but I'd draft him for his name alone...

I can see NFL films fifteen years from now glorifying our 2009 new stadium havin', super bowl winning, season with a great cinematic shot of our offense with a guy named battle in the backfield covered in mud as he breaks a tackle at his own three yard line freeing him for what would become a 98 yard game winning TD sending us to the big game...just saying. He's got a neato name.

He was a RB for Houston. He was the power guy. But he's projected to be a FB in the league.

burma: If Marshall gets in the league, it'll be solely as a return guy. He's 5'7" or 5'8" And while some WRs are that small, I just don't see anyone playing him there. He's a burner though.

Kolb and Battle are the most draftable of those listed with Battle projected to go the 2nd day. Kolb could go anywhere from 2-5.

The Sporting News draft guide has him ranked as the second QB behind Russell. Ahead of Brady Quinn.

I'm sure I'll get flamed, but I think Quinn is more of a project than Kolb. By that I mean, I think you could put both on an equivalent NFL team from day 1 and in their first years I think Kolb would put up better numbers.
