Default Cleveland Browns Picks

Rd 1 - 003 - Joe Thomas

Position:T
Class:Sr
School:Wisconsin
Ht., Wt.:6-6.5, 311
40 Time:
5.03

BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter who began his college career at defensive end. All-Conference selection every season since his sophomore campaign.

POSITIVES: Tremendous pass-blocking left tackle who does a terrific job protecting the blind side. Patient, makes exceptional use of angles and body positioning. Bends his knees, gets leverage on opponents and displays quickness in all aspects of his game.

NEGATIVES: Average skills blocking in motion. Not a finisher and must improve his run-blocking strength.

ANALYSIS: After a slow start to his senior campaign when he was rebounding from knee surgery performed, Thomas looked in fine form at the end of the year. One of the best pass protectors to come around in a long time and has the growth potential to improve as a run-blocker.

Cleveland trades their Second round pick (#36) and their 1st round pick in 2008 for the Dallas Cowboys first round pick this year (#22)

Rd 1 - 0022 - (from Dallas) Brady Quinn QB, Notre Dame

BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter who posted 61.9%/3,426/37/7 as a senior. Junior totals included a career-high 3,919 passing yards, a Notre Dame single-season record.

POSITIVES: Nice-sized, strong-armed pocket passer with a great amount of upside. Patient, calm under pressure and buys time for receivers. Gets outside the pocket to give himself a better view of the field. Has a quick, over-the-top delivery.

NEGATIVES: At times stares the primary target down from the get-go. Not averse to forcing the throw into coverage. Makes some head-scratching decisions at times. Not an elusive quarterback who escapes the rush. Marginally accurate throwing on the move.

ANALYSIS: Possessing the size, arm strength and intangibles to be a starter at the next level, Quinn is an incredibly productive college quarterback who translates well to the next level. Comes off a poor senior campaign and needs to refocus on the task at hand.

Rd 2 - 036 - (Traded to Dallas)

Cleveland trades 3rd round pick (#67), 4th round pick (#103) and 6th round pick (#178) to Dallas for the Cowboy's 2nd round pick (#53) and 6th round pick (#195)

Rd 2 - 053 - From Cowboys Eric Wright CB, UNLV

BIOGRAPHY: All-Conference selection last year, posting 29/1/8, after missing two games with a knee injury. Began his college career at USC, moving into the starting lineup as a freshman.

POSITIVES: Explosive defensive back who flashes the skill to shut down opponents. Quick-footed in reverse, is fluid transitioning to run with opponents and has a burst of speed. Flashes on the scene showing a terrific move to the ball then getting his hand up.

NEGATIVES: Does not show a lot of consistency or productivity in his play. Loses focus and concentration. Likes to gamble and will get beaten.

ANALYSIS: Possessing good ball skills, speed and upside potential, Wright offers a lot of possibilities for the future. Should have stayed in college another season and will need time to develop his game.

i love how it says quinn is coming off of a bad senior campaign... Let's see he had much better numbers than Russel who was the first overall selection, and he had better numbers than the Heisman trophy winner Troy Smith...hmmmm "needs to refocus on the task at hand" what does that even mean?

when you consider that russell had a better O line, better running game and a much BETTER D then no suprise there. Calling Quinns year a poor one is really all you need to know about the dimwit who wrote that.

Eric Wright CB, UNLV

I've got mixed feelings about the Cowboys passing on this guy. He's a considerable character risk with absolutely top flight talent.

The Cowboys have more information about Wright than any of us, of course, and if the Cowboys thought Wright's character justified punting on him, gotta go with it.

I've got a nagging feeling, though, that the Cowboys passed on a future Pro Bowl CB yesterday.
Answer for this off-season: Assemble an elite offense.

I never said that quinn had a poor year, just responding to the poster that had said that quinn had far better numbers than russell. That simply is not true.

Grade for the Browns: BIG FAT A+.

Some people say the trade for Quinn was way to expensive. Thats not true at all. First off, Quinn is expected to be their franchise QB. While some think he has topped out, one thing is sure. He won't be a bust like some QBs. He has the phsyical tools and is very smart. My biggest knock on him was how he played under pressure. Well, the Browns already helped that by signing Eric Stienbach and drafting Joe Thomas. Cleveland needed a QB. They were willing to spend a first round draft choice on that QB and they did. Next years first round choice. To be able to get your QB a year early cost them a second round pick. Considering they got the QB they really wanted, it was easily worth it and now next year their QB will have a year of experience that cost them a 2nd round pick.

Joe Thomas (IMO) was the absolute best value in the draft. Receivers are great, but to draft a franchise left tackle is to hit the mother load. You could have TO, Moss, and Aikman in thier prime, if your offensive line can't protect your QB. They arn't going to be very effective.

Eric Wright: This guy probably has the best tools of any CB in the draft. Better than Revis, Ross, Hall, or Houston. Problem was, he had the biggest red marks on anyone in the draft for his off the field issues. As a player, this was huge to land this guy in the second round. If he pans out, he could be the steal of the draft.
Formerly the notorious nyc!

I've got more red flags than Soviet Russia!

There is a good chance that you don't like me, but there is a better chance that I don't care.

If I'm not insulting you, I'm probably not aware that you exist.

Jerry Jones in the draft room is suicide on the football field. The line of scrimmage is EVERYTHING. Something Jerry doesn't understand.
