Default New York Giants Picks

Rd 1 - 020... Aaron Ross CB, Texas

BIOGRAPHY: All-Conference selection as a senior after becoming a full-time starter, posting 80/6/19. Primarily a reserve cornerback and return specialist before last season. Junior totals were 62/9/3, when he averaged 14.7 yards on 34 punt returns.

POSITIVES: Athletic corner who showed tremendous progress last season. Quick-footed in reverse, is fluid flipping his hips and easily runs downfield with opponents. Displays an excellent break to the throw, out-jumps opponents defending passes.

NEGATIVES: Tends to play soft coverage and gives up a lot of underneath receptions. Shows hesitation to his game and has trouble staying with receivers out of their breaks.

ANALYSIS: One of the better athletes at the cornerback position in this draft, Ross is just hitting his stride as a football player and offers great upside. May need time to develop his skills but has starting potential.

Rd 2 - 051... Steve Smith WR, USC

BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter and All-Conference selection as a senior after leading the Trojans in receiving with 71/1,083/9. Junior numbers were 60/957/5.

POSITIVES: Productive and consistent pass-catcher with a well-rounded game. Quickly releases off the line, finds the open space in the defense and easily makes the reception in stride. Stays low exiting breaks and gets separation from defenders.

NEGATIVES: Marginal playing speed, lacks the second gear and cannot stretch defenses.

ANALYSIS: Ultra-reliable during his career at USC, Smith is limited by his lack of size and speed. Yet with that his natural receiving abilities could help him develop into a productive third receiver.

Rd 3 - 081...Jay Alford DT, Penn State

BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter who was an All-Conference selection as a junior and senior. Finished last season with 32/14.5/8 numbers after 37/11.5/8.5 the prior year.

POSITIVES: Explosive, one-gap defender who plays with great quickness. Fast off the snap, gets leverage on opponents and fires through the gaps. Fights with his hands throughout the action, flashes lower body strength and drives his feet up the field.

NEGATIVES: Lacks bulk and engulfed by large opponents. Easily controlled once engaged in a block.

ANALYSIS: A solid athlete who flashes on the scene, Alford is a penetrating defensive lineman best suited to a system similar to that run by the Chicago Bears.

Rd 4 - 116... Zakk DeOssie LB, Brown
Rd 5 - 153... Kevin Boss TE, Western Oregon
Rd 6 - 189... Adam Koets OT, Oregon State
Rd 7 - 224... Michael Johnson S, Arizona
Rd 7 - 250... Ahmad Bradshaw RB, Marshall

Dallas will see the Giants September 9th and November 11th. Ross and Smith will probably both be playing then.

I would like to say...I am bummed at the eagles for getting the RB out of Hawaii before our pick.

I am also bummed that the Giants got Ahmad Bradshaw at the end of the day.

Very good underrated running back that basically took his teams offense on his shoulders, the only other decent player of note on his offense was the TE.

I am far more upset they took DeOssie.

Everyone knew about DeOssie...I doubt many knew about Bradshaw.

I think everyone here would have loved DeOssie.

Bradshaw may not make the team but I had major respect for the job he did on a once great, now terrible, offense at Marshall.
