backgrounds?
photoshop guys, where do you find your background images? Do you create them? If so, how? I love some of the stuff you guys do, im just trying to get more adept with the photoshop. Any suggestions on adding depth and dimension to backgrounds would be appreciated.

i start with a black background and then add stock images. like cities, mountains, storms. and mess with the properties and opacity. change it to lighten, or linear. things like that. my favorite thing to do tho is get a stock image with color, and blur it with the glaus blurr, usually about 65% will do the trick to give u a smooth blend of colors.

thanks, LM. That's a nice idea. I like how your sigs look metallic. Is that the satin finish?
Any good ideas for interesting text are appreciated, too.

I take a stock photo that I am going to use for the sig and work around it, say if it's a JJones sig your making, try using a part of his body in a corner where it flows with your sig, change the properties around as LM stated and run the opacity down, you can use tunnel stocks and sharpen them with a texture stock for depth. It takes awhile to get the feel of which is the right stock to use for the sig,you cant go wrong it's just trial and error. Just mess around with filters and see what each one does to your BG. The best advise I was given is learn all of the tricks of photoshop first. Text that's a whole other story,if you have questions just post an example and ask

I did a few sigs for a couple guys in a madden league, with their madden teams and players. Take a look and give me some critique, maybe some suggestions on things i could incorporate. I also did a banner for a website a friend and I are starting. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Also, diehard - the cursive font in your sig...are these fonts you download, or what?

no, its just layers blended together. and most of the time i add a solid white layer for lighting, and change the property to overlay.
on text, i always stay simple. use two colors that go with the sig and i call it a day. i like using asenine right now. thats the name of the font.

pretty good starts, try making a single player sig and keep the size around 400x100,less room to cover, dont be afraid to add more stocks and textures for depth, search textures on google. When I started out I made a sig with maybe 10 layers, now I average 30 depending on what I am trying to do,that doesn't mean you cant get a good one with fewer layers. I dont remember what font that was but just go to dafont.com and download some that look good,I like big noodle tilting, arial, courier new I like to use for subtext,I have so many fonts though. I think it takes time to learn how to do text right.

i like what ur doing. what will bring out your sigs 10 fold is making duplicates of your render(player) and desaturating the bottom render, and messing the properties to the duplicates. if that sounds confusing let me know and ill make a quick tutorial
