It's pretty rare that you see a fighter react to pain in the ring...there were a few occasions in this fight when Ali did just that.

Leonard Benitez.

Leonard Duran I & II

Leonard Hearns I

All great fights.

With regard to Ali, I respect anyone who takes a stand and is willing to suffer loss for that stand...Doesn't matter to me what the stand is; too many people take the easy road. I'm probably one of the few people who truly admires Barry Goldwater and Malcolm X.

Barry and Malcolm ---black and white ends of the spectrum(not color wise) ...I always thought Ali made the change for more then a change in his beliefs. In that way I never did respect him. Different stance then Malcolm took. I did not agree-but I could respect it..Way to deep of inter reflection for be --I'm just a shallow Texas boy who holds to the belief the South shall rise again and who cares if they don't -we will secede --Long live the Republic of Texas
Your just to deep a thinker Juke --must be the musical artsy part of ya..

Morning Pops. Morning Sarge, Juke, Yeags, Bob, Phil, Leon and Zax.

Morning Zoners! Man, I am also a big fan of Boxing. Not so much anymore as I was back in the day. I agree, the Sugar Ray fights were classics but that was truly a Golden Age of Boxing. Pryor vs Arguello were great fights as well. Also Haggler vs Hearns, Haggler vs Leonard, Duran vs Leonard, any of the Holyfield Fights and I just was in awe of all of the Early Tyson fights, before Custamodo passed on.

Since I was a little kid, I grew up on fights and fight stories from My Grandad. When my Grandad was young, were talking in the 40s, My Grandad was an All Service Middleweight Champ. He once fought an exabition match against Sugar Ray Robinson. My Grandad would tell me about it when I was just a little boy. The fight took place aboard ship before D-Day. My Grandad told me that Sugar Ray carried him for 5 rounds, and then at the start of the 6th round, my Grandad told me that Sugar Ray must have had a date because he all of a sudden got serious and landed a left cross right on the button. Knocked my Grandad out cold. He would always joke that it was the high point of the entire European Cruise.

Man, I loved boxing back in those days.

Morning, Cbz. Morning ABQ, Phil, Bob, Sarge, Yeags, Juke, Zax and everyone.

I've had a nasty cold for about 4 days now. Taking dayquil during the day to keep me at least functional and NyQuil at night so I can sleep. The sun came out for a few hours yesterday so I went out to primer the garage door. Man I was weaker than a popcorn fart.

Sugar Ray Leonard is probably my favorite boxer of all time. Ya gotta love George Foreman too. Held up the flag at the olympics. Had five (?) sons and named them all George. lol.

One of my favorite fights is the Foreman vs Michael Moorer fight. Moorer was killing George until he dropped his guard and George put his lights out with one punch. lol

5 Sons and 5 Daughters, of which, he named all the boys George and two of the Daughters (Georgetta and Freeda George). He didn't want any of them to be confused about who there Pap was.

Good morning, Pops and good morning to ABQ, Bob, Sarge, Yeags, Leon, Juke, Zax and everyone else. I remember the short Clay/Liston fight as a kid. My dad was going to watch the fight ( no pay-per-view then ) and he was helping me with my homework. It was only as couple of minutes, but the fight only last about 13 seconds. It was the famous "phantom punch". The scuttlebutt was that the fix was in and Liston was paid to throw the fight. There was no instant replay, so we had to wait until the news came on. After that, my dad was sure that boxing was rigged. I just remember that I asked my mother for help on homework after that.
The Truth will STILL not be the first casualty of war

With that win, I think he became the oldest heavyweight champ in history.

Through the years, I've collected a ton of fights on DVD...I'm actually crazy enough to have Joe Frazier and Jumbo Cummings on dvd.

I don't think I can name a single champion today.
RIP Santiago
