As I said in another thread, I'm convinced that Spears mostly gets a pass from the fanbase because we also selected Ware that year.

Had he been the lone pick that year and had the exact same stats as now, he would be vilified (as he should be now) as much as Carpenter and also considered a bust.

Then I thought we were headed in the right direction in 2005, when they started out 7-3 and lost 4 of their last 6 to finish 9-7 and barely miss the playoffs. That season seemed eerily similar to 1986.

I remember it well, it filled me with hope and I was excited. I TIVO'd the ESPN News press conference and watched it later in disbelief because I never thought Jerry would hire an accomplished coach.

I like and respect Bill Parcells, but was happy to see him go. He built a team that had talent but played too close to the vest. Every game came down to the 4th quarter. That's fine for a bad football team quarterbacked by Quincy Carter, but in his final year we had a good football team that underachieved because the offense played conservative.

As a football man he'll get credit for picking Ware, which was somewhat of a bold move, but you can also lay blame for Julius Jones over Stephen Jackson, and the horrible Bobby Carpenter pick which all of us saw a mile away.

I'll stick with Garrett, thank you very much.

Gosh I do. I boldly proclaimed that Parcells would coach here for 6 years and win 2 more Super Bowls. I had that much faith in the guy.

I wonder what he could have done with the triplets if he had been the coach who came after Jimmy? I certainly don't think we'd have headed down the road to hell. But that's just me.

I don't like the way he left, and I am less than pleased with the overall results. But 8 years ago today was when I learned to hope again as a Cowboys fan.

We win that game, or any other game we lost, and we win the East, because we'd be 10-6.

I actually miss Parcells, warts and all, considering what has come since. I truly believe that with Romo for a full season, he would have done better than Wade's 13-3 and 1-and-done playoff the season after he left. Too bad he ran out of gas in the tank just as the team was on the cusp of putting it all together. I also liked that Parcells was a trenches type coach, because we are seeing right now what happens when you ignore the trenches and focus too much on skill positions.

I remember reading some anecdote, maybe on this board, that Giants players hated playing the Cowboys back then because Parcell's Cowboys were so physical. Anyone remember what I'm talking about? I doubt any of the Cowboys rivals are saying anything like that these days.

We definitely would have been better off with Big Bill. His core was maturing into their prime. The QB was finally ready. I wish he'd have had the energy to stick around for another contract.

I think he really burned out as a coach in 2004 with all the trouble with Jerruh wanting Henson to start and everything else. And by 2006 he just did not have the energy; and like Hos said he was very close to his brother and his death towards the end of the season pretty much finished him.

And we will not even get into the whole TO mess

Actually that's not true. We win one more game and we end up 9-7. Same as the giants but since they swept us, they win the division.

The lions were 10-6. If we beat the, we would both be 9-7 but we won the head to head, so we are the wildcats and not them. ****ing bobby carpenter.

You know what, it is 9 years. My bad. He was here 4 years, Wade 3.5 years and now Garrett 1.5 years.
