Dennard to the Pats

Nebraska is one of my t-shirt college teams and I watch most of their games. Dennard is NOT that good, he's nowhere near the prospects that Clairborne, Gilmore, Kirkpatrick or even Jenkins are from a physical standpoint. He's a solid fundamental guy with a relatively low ceiling.

Go back and look at their drafts over the last several years. They've taken a lot of them.

Hmmm, the patriots have drafted a lot of players that were in jail and couldn't attend any off-season activities? If you read what I've written in this thread I've already explained that's what I meant when I said that. They aren't an organization that is dumb enough to draft a player who will end up going to jail and not be able to play.

I didn't say anything about him being in jail. I said he if can't play (meaning he isn't good enough to play in the NFL), then it's not a good pick, regardless of where he was selected. And going back over the last several years, the Patriots have taken a lot of players who turned out not to be any good. I know they wouldn't take a guy they thought would spend a significant time in jail. Those are pretty much reserved for the Bengals.

You're confusing me. So then why did you reply to my post? You're telling me something that had no relevance to what I had said. I never said anything about them only drafting players who will start/be contributors. I was specifically saying they wouldn't draft someone that would be in jail.

You're right though, that would be for the Bengals. lol

Sorry, I was responding to your assertion that they got great value for Dennard, which if he turns out to be a good player, they absolutely did. I'm simply prediciting he won't be.

Oh okay, I got ya. You may be right. They did get good value in terms risk though. Rather then use an earlier draft pick as some predicted he might go, grab him at the end from another team and take the risk. At the end of the day no one knows how he will turn out. IMO it was good value as a 7th round pick. They took a talented player that should have gone earlier if he didn't have one off the field issue. Rather than take the chance of losing a player like that in UDFA, snag him and see.

You are getting a chance at 2nd or 3rd round physical skill for the price of a backup linebacker. Bryce Brown has very good physical skill if you can get him in shape and his mind right. He requires effort of coaches no doubt, but the NFL does not say you can't assign "grad assistant" type coaches to those guys.

I'd take my shots in the 7th round. I'd honestly try to accumulate them because teams think so little of them they are very undervalued. Out of Brown, Dennard, Datko, and Janzen Jacksen 1 or 2 of them will get there head and or body right and become a starter. All of them have starter physical ability and you can cut them for nothing. Combined those 4 picks would be worth the same as a 6th rounder. Sure you might get some of them in free agency but there is more competition there.

You're right Brown was the #1 RB coming out of high school and 2009 was the same year Trent Richardson came out of high school being the #2 RB in the nation that year.

Bryce Brown from what I've read on him is that he had alot of personal problems off the field and also read where being that he's from Kansas he realy didn't like being at Tennessee because he was home sick which is a common thing for alot of use when we travel and live far from home.

He's a classic example of a fall from grace type player I really liked him coming out of high school as a player even though he's going to a rival like the Eagles I hope it works out for the young man.

I hope he is able to redeem himself in some fashion. I don't hope for people to fail, but I also see that he may struggle with the expectations at this level. I don't think that the NFL is the place where he's going to do it. He appears to need stability and a chance to mature. Perhaps Arena football or a shot at the CFL might be a better bet. He might wind up there in any event.
