About freaking time. I've been looking for an alternative for years now. I hate breathing on my own.

Aye, I didn't mean pure liq oxygen, just the part where he was breathing a liquid with oxy in it. Looked really cool in that movie though

When I first read the title, I was thinking this is perfect for SCUBA diving, though I suppose it would no longer be called SCUBA if you didn't have to breath while diving.
So long as the airway was open, there might a little movement out of the lungs.

For the short term however, given adequate blood pressure the kidneys would likely excrete enough bicarbonate to keep things in check.

Carbon dioxide and water form carbonic acid which dissociates into bicarbonate and a hydrogen ion. Bicarbonate gets filtered out by the kidneys turning your pee more alkaline.

So where is the disclaimer that it will be an additional ten years before it comes to market?

And, the disclaimer that when introduced to the bloodstream may cause complications including;

Diarrhea

as for the chest compression, why would you need the 2 breaths after if the blood gets oxygenated artificially? My thought is that once the CO2 is expelled the lungs sit empty until filled with CO2 again
No problem man. And yes, I forgot about the whole reason of this thread Since the blood is artificially oxygenated, there would be no need.

I also thought that cerebrospinal fluid was involved in this process as well. I never knew the kidneys had a part in it. I always thought CO2 diffused from the blood to the cerebrospinal fluid where it reacted with water to make H2CO3 and then H2CO3 dissociated into a hydrogen ion and bicarbonate. However, it does make sense that the bicarbonate would need to be excreted, so I can see the kidneys could come into play.

It was real kool. Hence, the Academy Award it got for Best Visual Effects.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

You can't get rid of enough CO2 to matter other than the lungs.
