DC.COM: Counterpoint: Harvey Martin Should Be Inducted Next
Posted by bbroaddus at 7/6/2012 1:20 PM CDT on dallascowboys.com
First off let me start out by saying that I have nothing against Darren Woodson and what he has meant to the Dallas Cowboys organization over the years. In my 13 years of working in the National Football League, I had five players that were my personal favorites for what they meant on and off the field and Darren Woodson was in my top five. It truly was an honor to have worked on the same team that he was on.
One day, Darren Woodson will get his day in the sun with that Ring of Honor opportunity there is no doubt in my mind but where my problem lies is in the process with Charles Haley going before Harvey Martin.
In my view Harvey Martin is the greatest defensive end to have ever worn a star for this franchise. I respect what Haley has done in his career with the Cowboys and to be a part of three Super Bowl winning teams is quite an accomplishment. But where I get lost with Haley is that he was selected by Bill Walsh and the San Francisco 49ers, not the Dallas Cowboys. Haley’s sample size is a small but productive one as compared to what Harvey Martin did for this franchise during the 1970’s and into the 80’s.

Martin deserves to be in the HOF much less the ROH.
Many people don't realize just how talented those late 60s and 70s teams were. And Harvey Martin was one of the most talented. Harvey and Randy side by side. What a nightmare!
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

We tell the team we have to move on from success" JG Oh how they have done that.
I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don't have expectations lived up to, the one that should get the most heat is the one that ultimately makes the decisions, period, with the Dallas Cowboys. And that's me."

Martin, Too Tall, and Darren Woodson all belong.

No doubt Harvey Martin should be in. It was awesome to have him play for the Cowboys, and what a great game he had when the Cowboys beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl.
When I got married in 1994 I put my wife up to something. I had her send some 8 x 10's to various Cowboys players, past and current at the time. Enclosed was a letter explaining that she was marrying a diehard Cowboys fan and would love to give her new husband an autographed picture of his favorite Cowboys players. I had her send like to 20 different players. All the Cowboy greats. Emmitt and Michael were the only 2 that didnt honor the request. Some were personalized. Some just signed. Drew Pearson and Harvey Martin went way beyond. Drew sent me a handwriiten letter on his company letterhead as well as a nice note with his autograph on the picture. Harvey Martin basically did the same with some encouraging words about loving my wife. What he and Drew did was really cool and spoke volumes about what kinda of guys they were/are.
All of us Cowboys fans are really blessed to be fans of this team. Nothing else in sports can compare.
Harvey Martin is already in my Ring of Honor!

I think both Martin and Woodson deserve to be in the HOF and ROH.

The lost memory of the great players on those teams saddens me tremendously.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.
