They should STILL be throwing trash.

I've always hated the fact that the infield fly rule gives an automatic out no matter what happens. I believe part of the infield fly rule should be that the infielder - or in this case outfielder (!) - should have to actually catch the ball or else the batter is awarded 1st base and all runners are awarded an advancement of 1 base.
I never imagined that my little rule suggestion would have saved MLB from this debacle.

The rule is actually a good rule when it's used correctly as it is 99.99% of the time. The runners on base are in a "no man's land" on an infield pop up. If the runners try to advance the infielder will catch the ball and double up the runner. If the runners don't try to advance then the fielder drops the ball and the runners are screwed because they are still sitting on base. It makes for an easy double play.
The problem with the call last night was it wasn't an infield fly ball even if the shortstop was callling for it, and even if it was the umpire should have called it immediately and not a split second before the ball fell between the two fielders.

That argument can easily be used against us Cowboys fans. The Cowboys have had more playoff meltdowns than the Braves have.
Of course, the Cowboys haven't made too many playoffs lately, so maybe it can't be used against us.

If they're playing like the Phillies, other relevant teams or there's a promotion like bobbleheads the stadium is packed. Over the course of the season it evens out. The Braves are owned by a media corporation. They set their payroll based on the revenue they bring in. A big part of that revenue is attendance. If they weren't actually drawing that many fans, they would absolutely have a smaller payroll.

I don't think that call was an issue. Here's why.
If you watch the replay, the infielder is going to make the play but retreats at the last moment thinking he heard the outfielder call for it. But what he actually heard was the infield fly rule called out by the ump. It happened at the exact same time.
So...if that call was never made, the infielder never mistakes it and simply catches the ball for the out.
It makes for a good excuse though for Braves fans.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Good game last night. Yankees pull it out in the 9th with a 5 run 9th inning. NY leads series 1-0.
Pettitte on the mound tonight vs Chen for the O's.

Another good game last night. O's managed to hold on for a 3-2 win and tie the series up 1-1. Now we go to NY for the final 3 games of the series. Wed. night it's Kuroda vs Gonzalez.

Pitching slightly favored for the O's in game 3. If the O's win game 3 I think they wrap it up in game 4 and take the series 3-1. Tillman probably pitches game 4. If it goes to game 5 anything can happen.
