It's easy to blame Hamilton, but even though he didn't approach the "gargantuan" numbers several folks here thought he would get based on his start to the season, the guy put together a very solid campaign. His deteriment is that he's a "hacker". When things are going well he's taking his cuts and making solid contact. His cold spells are a lot of swinging and missing and not contributing much to the offense.
But this is a lineup that led the AL in runs scored to simply dump on Hamilton as being the big reason the team didn't advance is goofy. Other than a couple of guys, the starting pitching was shaky or injured for a good part of the season.
[View Full Quote]The team still has a lot of talent but it's going to need some retooling. I don't think the Rangers will re-up Hamilton and if they do, they'll probably cut back somewhere else.
On top of that while they'll be getting the rebuilding Astros in the division next year, the other three teams are going to offer some solid competition.

I don't want Hamilton's attitude to continue on this team. The players like him, but he definitely has a "this team owes me" attitude and I really hate that he only puts forth effort when he feels like it. I don't want any of that rubbing off on our other players. Especially the younger ones.

Jerry Jones in the draft room is suicide on the football field. The line of scrimmage is EVERYTHING. Something Jerry doesn't understand.

There's probably some of that.
But I think Hamilton has some other (personal) issues that he continually has to deal with.

To just bash Hamilton would indicate a lack of attention to the Rangers.

can someone explain why the wildcard (Baltimore) got to open the series with two games at home? Shouldn't Ny have had the first two in their house? Don't care who wins, I just thought this was strange much like the way the wild card St Louis Cardinals got freaking home field advantage in the world series because the NL won the dang allstar game. I believe that cost the Rangers the title last year.

For some reason they're doing it this way just this year then it will be 3-2 again next year instead of 2-3. I want to say it has something to do with logistics but not 100% on that.
Go ahead make my season!

Just bash Hamilton? I don't just *follow* the Rangers and I don't just *bash* Ranger players. I give most players the benefit of the doubt. If I have something negative to say about a specific player, then that specific player has repeatedly done something to deserve what I said.
I'm a huge Texas Rangers fan and have been since way back in the early 80s. (I remember Buddy Bell playing 3rd base in old Arlington Stadium) I am not like some fans. I don't just immediately bash and call for the heads of players because of a single mistake or bad game.
I'm not calling for the Rangers to not try and resign him, but I don't want them to go for more than 3-5 years max length on his contract and not much more than $100M. I would give him more money per year on a 3 year contract than I would on a 5 year. I definitely don't want the Rangers to sign him for more than 5 years and would prefer a 3 year contract.

I don't think Coobaugh was fired for the final numbers, but more for the fact that he couldn't reignite the offense when it faltered basically for four straight months. (that is even beyond Hamilton's failure)

It will be interesting to see what the Rangers do.
They "only" have $86 mil committed to payroll for 2013.
But they only have 11 guys signed. The rest are free agents or arbitration eligible.
Last season their payroll was $120 mil.
