Replacing one of the most respected OL coaches in the business.
Not an upgrade. Does nothing to fix the situation. That was my point.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Anyway, lots of guards go on to play well on other teams after they are deemed expendable by another. Nate Newton and Ron Stone immediately come to mind. And lets not forgot the memorable Brian Waters.

I am still hoping, but people here in Panther Country were absolutely shocked that Dallas signed him to be a starter and I am thus far agreeing with them. Dude currently looks like he would be a good gameday back-up, but not a long term solution.
I am holding out some hope that his injuries from the offseason have just kept him held back and he will end up a better player coming out of the bye week.

Fair enough.. though a slight upgrade, imo.

For the record, I was not thrilled with this move but I'm willing to give the guy a chance to prove himself. He has not had a lot of time to prep for the season but he's healthy now so there is no excuse for a lack of improvement.
Garrett to players: Make today a great day; go about the business of winning! If you can't keep up then don't step up.

I think the guy has played poorly to date but I do see an upside. If he can regain his lower body strength and power he should be a solid contributor by November. If he's JAG, he will keep playing the way he is and will be cut at the end of the season.

Also, he's really had to face some tough assignments -- he got destroyed by McCoy in TB -- that kid was the 3rd overall pick in the 2010 draft. Melton from Chicago is a budding star who likely sees a giant contract for 2013.
None of this means that Mack doesn't suck -- but he's not exactly been in an ideal situation physically or matchup wise

I agree. Houck did a fine job coaching Tyron and it proved a point to me. A coach is only as good as the talent that he has to work with. It is notvasvsimple as getting a big guy and coaching him up as some posters think. The sad thing about this line situation is that the team and fans will forget about how bad they are when draft time rolls around. You will hear the same comments about linemen not being worth early picks and you can always get good linemen in the late rounds. I don't care who the coach is if some quality linemen are not drafted they will fail.

Excellent point! This is why I was hoping the Cowboys would have drafted a stud guard in April rather than try their luck with a retread.
This week it's Livings' turn to prove his worth going up against Halitosis Ngata.

So every time he matches up with a good DT he has carte blance to be a complete liability. Sorry, that just doesn't fly.

I'm pointing out that if a player misses most of training camp while rehabbing an injury and he goes out and gets abused by a great DT that it might not be useful to make projections based on those performances
But I do realize that distinctions other than Black and White are a bit too complex for most of the folks on this board
