You can do that with an iMac, it's just a bit harder. Changing out memory is the only thing that's is really easy with an iMac.

On a side note:
Apple's Rubber Band Patent Tentatively Rejected on Reexamination

If I remember correctly, 20% of the damages from the Apple vs Samsung was based on this patent.

The new iMac does not have a dvd drive. So they want it to be a big iPad with external device support?

In fairness I think I've used my DVD-RW in my iMac like 10 times total

My kids use it for watching movies. Not as often as they used to though. Also I do not like the idea of having to provide the drive if I wanted to reload the OS.

The new iMac is not as thin as they would like you to believe.

I'm a bit behind - still using a 2 Y/O Mac Pro, how do you load the OS if not with a drive?

My Samsung Series 9 laptop doesn't have a DVD drive either. That wasn't anything a LITE-ON 8x USB DVD drive couldn't fix. That is how I install Ubuntu on my laptop.

That's actually a little bit of a weird perspective. It was much thinner when I watched the video live.

When I first saw the new iMac I was wondering if it was thicker in the back then they were letting on. The pics on apple.com do not show the complete backside. Add in the no DVD drive and I started thinking it is a huge iPad

I got the pic from this site.

Just looks like it's shot with a fisheye lens a little.

You download all new OS's through the App store now. Also, you can backup your OS to a flash drive in case anything goes wrong. That's what I do even with my DVD-RW drive.

I noticed that when he presented it. He tried to hide it a little. Either way, it's impressive.

You don't. You can literally download the OS from the internet on a fresh install.

I bought a new SSD for my macbook, booted up to the internet installation and an hour later I was in business.

Details here.
