If it works it's brilliant, if it doesn't work it's the worst call ever. How about the SF game last year when he threw the ball to Holley? If Holley doesn't make the catch, it's the dumbest decision ever, but he makes it and the rest is history.
Sometimes there is more to it than what you see on TV...

The thing is even if it worked it was a stupid call. Leaving that much time for Eli with 3 time outs for a possible game winning fg is dumb.
Make the first and run the clock. How hard is that?

I can't stop thinking about that either.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

One safety was creeping down, the other creeping up.
Plus, I think Romo caught the safeties signal the coverage to each other. Don't know why they didn't already sort that out. Probably had to wait for the offense to align, but they did what they were pointing at.

Romo should have never thrown to that scrub. Simple as that. That play was on Romo if he was given THAT option.

If a receiver is open on a play, throw it to him, even if he is a scrub.

If he would of hit Austin for the 1st down and still lost people would be saying "If he would of thrown to Ogletree in the endzone we could of won, poor decision by Romo!!"

Yeah but which one has the higher percentage chance of succeeding?

I find it funny people are actually saying we should've ran. The Dallas cowboys running game sucks, I don't trust it to gain an inch, let alone a hard. Just look at the goal line issues where the offensive line got no push at all.
If you have a problem with the pass selection, that's fine, that's your opinion. But for the people who are complaining about if we would've scored we would've left Eli with too much time on the clock. Let me ask you this, isn't that a much better problem to have then to not score at all? Even if we pick up the first down there is NO guarantee that we end up scoring. If anything the play call is kind of smart. You have a situation where the defense is probably not expecting a ball in the end zone. They took a shot and missed. It happens. To blame anyone is trivial, and you guys really need to relax. Blaming Romo for this isn't gonna change anything. For all the throws he missed, he still stormed us back.
For the record, I don't think it was a penalty. You saw ogletree grab his jersey, the guys were hand checking each other. Clean play.

KO was the very first option in the play. They got the single man coverage and Romo put the ball in a pretty good place, i.e. where KO could get a hand on it. But KO can't beat my grandmother in single coverage, besides the fact the CB played it pretty well.
The fact that the pass play given to Romo to call, with KO running that route is stupid. The fact that there were 2 other times to run, and they didn't that was stupid.
Yes, Romo can check out of a run play, but the pass play he is given is also from the coach.
|
Sooo you're saying Romo has to stare down his first read instead of looking off and spotting a wide open Austin for a easy 1st down.. Got it.
By the end of 2014 Romo will not be starting for the cowboys and the most popular phrase on the board will be..."see I knew we shouldn't have signed him to that big contract".

Yup, the head coach has no power over play calling. What could Garrett possibly do??
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

Good teams play situational football and consider everything involved at any given moment. Of course scoring is ultimately the most important thing, but at 2nd and 1 already at the 19, we were in the PERFECT situation to continue to burn clock and move more methodically down the field. If it had been 2nd and 12 or something, no one would be complaining.
Literally everything about that situation dictated run, and it wasn't called, by Garrett or Romo or whoever. It was bad football, and it cost us AGAIN.

It was 3rd and 1. And you're kind of proving the point. Everything about the situation dictated run, so you don't think the defense knew that? What has happened pretty much all year when we've tried to run? We've failed miserably. I'm not saying it was the best pass play, but I hav zero issue with checking out of the run into a pass there.

lol, I'm having a hard time seeing how anyone really buys that you don't try to gain 1 yard on the ground on 2 and 1 or 3rd and 1. Even if you have 19 yards on the ground, you go for 20 yards on one of those downs. I can get passing on 2nd and 1 if you're going to run on 3rd and 1, but you don't throw on both downs unless you're okay with the field goal in that situation.

They needed a yard at the goal line and failed on first and second down. And failed miserably, didn't come close. This is not a good running team, especially if Murray is out.
