Do we really need to hold on to a 4th corner for insurance? Is this team that stacked that we don't need additional draft picks?

That is the key question, isn't it? Is a 4th round pick valuable enough today for a player who has proven starter ability and can help this team now?
Garrett to players: Make today a great day; go about the business of winning! If you can't keep up then don't step up.

He will bring a compensatory pick. That is worth something.
I like playing the odds. I think he has a better chance of playing and helping this season than a 4th round pick does of making the team and contributing next year. Make that a 2nd round pick, though, and I like those odds a little more.

How many plays did Jenkins play vs the giants? I barely saw him. And with Carr n Claiborne playing outside and scandrck manning the slot when did Jenkins really play?

There is a very good chance that Jenkins won't bring a comp pick. I am sure that Dallas will sign a free agent or two and the pick won't be awarded. If he is the reason for an extra win in a bad season will it really make much difference? The biggest reason that I want the picks is it will least offer something in return instead of getting nothing back on the investment. If Felix and Jenkins were both traded, those picks could always be used to move up and get a higher pick. If the comp pick was a sure thing, I wouldn't trade him for a 4th, but it a very slim chance, so I would rather take the trade. I have little hope for the season. 8-8 is not much better than 6-10. Both are failures.

Why does this keep coming up? We're getting a comp pick for the guy that'll be in the same neighborhood of anything we'd get in a trade (though a year later), and we need the guy. Our secondary has been a shining beacon in this dismal start to a season; why would we try to dismantle it now?
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Why do you assume we will get a comp pick? It is not that simple. Actually chances are slim for getting the pick under the guidelines.

Because Jenkins is a starting-quality player and I'm fairly sure he's going to get a substantial contract in a league obsessed with passing defense.
Regardless, I still wouldn't rob the secondary of a quality player mid-season in order to get a mid-round pick.

Jenkins is so much more valuable to this team than a 4th rounder. End of discussion. Throw a 3rd and 5th out there I might consider it.

My problem with that is there's no guarantee. He could get injured or go to jail or retire and never play again, or we could go ahead and sign a ton of big free agents-nullifying any comp pick we would get.
I think if someone offers you a good deal, you take the sure thing

Unless, of course, you're still expecting to win this season. I suspect we might be on different sides of that question at this point.

Jenkins played 26 of 60 snaps against the Giants.
Jenkins + a 6th for their 2nd

Well you're not really thinking realistic though. The season isn't over. The odds are against us yea but all of these teams separate each other from 1, 2 or 3 games. Its HARDLY over. Now I know no one wants to be hurt and its easier to be a debbie downer but in reality the Cowboys aren't out of it and if they felt this team was a playoff team going into this season then they should feel that way now. If they win their games they are in. Jenkins gives us a better chance to win now.
