Not much of a blackout? 34th street is midtown Manhattan. That is half of Manhattan Island. On a normal business day, that would account for about 2.5M people.

Not sure why you would be comparing Staten Island to Manhattan. Devastation wise, Staten Island is made out of wooden houses, Manhattan is made out of concrete and steel buildings. They aren't likely to be washed away. One big difference is Manhattan is not only exists above ground, most of Manhattan's utilities and mass transit exists below ground. Flooded, below ground.

Both Staten Island and lower Manhattan took a serious hit. (they are only across the bay from each other) Staten Island has about 450k people.

That's what I'm asking... is most of the devastation in SI? For those of us that don't live there, the boroughs and Islands are very confusing. We just know it as NYC for the most part...

Hmm. I suppose it's relative. Houses got washed away in Staten Island. That doesn't really happen in Manhattan since they are concrete and Steel, but some will end up being demolished. Much of the electrical and subways will probably have to be completely pumped out, cleaned and probably even wiring replaced. (I would guess anyhow) That will probably take a very long time.

I was in lower Manhattan (way down at the bottom where the skyscrapers are) The outside has been picked up quite a bit. It's inside the buildings and underground that is a complete mess.

Manhattan will definitely recover first overall. There is massive manpower trying to get Manhattan back online due to its significance to not only New York's and surrounding area's economy, but the worlds economy.

I posted that one a long time ago. It reminds me of a fishing trip I went on with my grandfather when I was about that age. I held on to my pole longer though
