you dont win by collecting names in the nba. even when the celts and heat built star-studded groups they relied on a younger star than the lakers have and didn't win a title the first year. they needed key contributors that werent all-stars to make those teams go.
feel free to keep up the high hopes and suffer through a miserable season though.
[View Full Quote]i am merely trying to tell you as someone who coaches and watches tons of basketball the realistic issues they will face. the biggest is defensive issues guarding anyone under 6'6". they will get torched by quality guards all year long. the lakers lack of speed and quickness is readily apparent every game. ((this is also why barea and deshawn stevenson played so much for the mavs in their playoff run--you need some speed and quickness))
i love steve nash. he has been tremendous to watch and he is a guy who has maxed out his abilities and performance. but anyone thinking 38 year old steve nash is an elite point guard is not watching basketball nightly and instead playing nba2k10 or some nonsense. the suns fell apart largely as he aged. his dip isn't brand new. the price he was paid is insane.

Yes! They are running the wrong offense. To me the offense works with guys who can all shoot the ball if given the open shot. Sacramento used the same type of offense and it worked for them because they were fast tempo, big men could pass, and anyone from the point to the center can shoot outside jumpers without hesitation imo. Washington worked because they had scorers in Arenas, Hughes, Butler, and Jamison. The Lakers are not that team. Their offense is about pick and roll, post up, and isolation.

Cas may be a lot of things but a Laker fan is not among those.

Not surprising the Lakers lost in Utah. They haven't had alot of success there over the years. I'm not gonna panic or anything because I kind of expected this slow start. The one thing I'm concerned about is the lack of support that Kobe and Dwight are getting. They both combined for 48 points, the rest of the team though only scored 38. That's not gonna get it done. You can't just rely on two players to win games. Howard also needs more touches. He can't be guarded straight up one and one. Teams have to double which will lead to open shots. That's why he needs to be getting the basketball alot more than he has been.
Nash being out obviously has hurt the team because it weakens the bench even more. I said it a few weeks ago, but now that Delonte West is a free agent I really think we should sign him. He'd instantly improve the defense. West is just a good all around player. Decent ball handler, scorer, playmaker, and defender. That's the biggest thing wrong with the second unit. Just no one who can make plays for others. Jamison has been a disappointment, but he's being used wrong. He needs to be given the ball in his sweet spots. Right now he's being used as a spot up shooter and he's just not that. He's a scorer.
Overall though like I said we're just in the second week of the NBA season. It's way too early to hit the panic button. I've said it before, but the Lakers just need some time to gel and develop some chemistry. Nash should be back soon so that'll help things. I don't Mike Brown should be fired either. I'm just not a fan of firing a head coach this early in the season. If the Lakers continue to struggle as the season goes on than maybe you consider firing him, but not right now. Biggest problem is there isn't really an adequate replacement for Brown.

Get ready for alot more of this..
The Lakeres have no depth, no bench. The starters are going to have to win games by themselves. If they can't, its gonna be a long season in LA.

Meanwhile, the Mavs are 4-1 with the NBA all-star 'B' team.

I asked this before, but everyone just laughed at me thinking I was kidding, so ill ask again in all seriousness; is the pick the lakers traded away for Nash lottery protected?

If only the Cowboys had this kind of accountability.

Bad decision, Brown needed 5 more years to learn how to win with this team.

Maybe we could send Garrett over there to help run the Princeton offense.

So jealous. This is how a perennially successful, no-nonsense organization acts. Wish our team would do the same with its lameduck coach.
