The problems I have seen with this team that continue to plague it this year, in my opinion, can be grouped into 3 areas, and no, a lack of talent isn't one of them. Sure, we still need some better players, but in my opinion that's not a good enough excuse. Championships have been won with less. The difference is what you DO with what you have, and despite some shortcomings, the Cowboys, I believe, have enough to get it done. But they don't. Why? Because they fail at the following:

1. Discipline

Good post. Here's a scaled down version: 1 can't run the ball 2 can't run the ball 3 can't run the ball.

Problems start at the top. Jerry is the problem. These star players know nothing will happen unless Jerry says so.

After week 2 why wasn't Felix benched from KR? Because Jerry said he would not be.

Jerry has more influence than most would like to believe.

It's not a mistake that this team has not competed for 16 years and the common denominator is JERRY JONES.

But every time I go to Cowboys stadium and watch them lose and get embarassed, I just look up in the box and think of how Jones must feel. The guy build a beautiful stadium and does so many good things for this team. And he has actually brought in some great young talent the last few years. This team has great talent.

But he hires bad coaches and he brushes the importance of the Oline under the rub. Its all glitz and glamor for him and no substance. Dline he ignores, Oline he ignores and coaching he brushes off.

Anyone can coach and skill position flash is what jones preaches. But in the trenches and leadership in the lockeroom is what wins games. That, along with a good QB.
You make some good points, and yes, Jerry is in charge. He hires the coaches, so the buck stops with him. Can't disagree there.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he sticks his nose into coaching issues from time to time, but I think Garrett has far more influence on correcting (or not correcting) these problems than Jerry does.

1a) Past Success

Jerry said it with glee in his voice. He's not gonna stop being GM b/c he's won 3 championships doing what he does. Sure, nearly 20 years ago, but still.

Default Good perspective...

Just a comparison... I live in the Philly area. They are crucifying Reid. You could replace the names with Reid, etc. and it you wouldn't even be able to distinguish the two teams.

BTW - both are 3-5.

It is very simple. The 1 thing that Bellicheck and Coughlin have in common is that they will bench a player at the expense of wins. They are not afraid to pull that trigger at all and their players know it. Garrett may be stern with some, but his starters are untouchable. Until that changes, I don't see anything else changing on this team. Simply taking punt return duty from Bryant, I'm afraid, will not be enough. He, Ogletree, and any other player for the slightest mistake needs to ride the pine. I also like the idea that Coach Smith has incorporated with the Falcons. The individual responsible for the most penalty yards sits at the front. Each week they reorganize the seating chart to accomodate placing an emphasis on focus. The Cowboys need that concept instilled desperately.

Is that Rudy staring over Jerry's shoulder? Maybe Jerry is trying to convince Jason to put Rudy in.
