If Garrett can stop doing this on 3rd down this team can make the playoffs
I get so damm annoyed when it's 3rd and 3 and Garrett calls a 20 yd pass play which is usually incomplete and we have to punt. Why not get the 1st down and then go for the homerun? Any coach should know it makes more sense to take a shot for a big play on 1st or 2nd down not 3rd down when you need to keep the drive alive.
He did this about 3 times against the Eagles and I;m not sure why he is doing it. It's called STUPID coaching

Uh, I'm sure there there are other receivers in the play not running 20 yard routes. Tony is the one throwing the ball.

People usually dont remember what down it was when a big play is made. Unless it is a critical situation and the reason its even viewed as a big play is because of the down. Like the 3rd down pass to otree at the end of the first giants game. But they always remember the drive enders that didnt work.

I don't have a problem with 20 yard routes on a 3rd and short down and distance. I don't think we need all the routes to be 20 yards deep but it does make sense to run a deeper route in order to draw safety coverage and make LBs drop. If the Defense doesn't do that, then everybody is at the LOS and it's harder to make the first. It comes down to spacing basically. The real problem is that we have a QB and Coach who like to go down field and will look to do that all too often in situations where a shorter route or a run might be better served. Of course, it's hard to call anybody out when we can't get 3 yards in short yardage situations with any regularity at all. That needs to be fixed.

It's still a risky play unless you are already winning 27-3

What Garrett needs to stop doing is running the ball on every single 1st down.

So you don't have a issue with Romo throwing a bomb on 3rd down?

This. I want to say it was our 2nd drive. Romo had Austin and Beasley open for first downs, instead he went deep to Dez, incomplete.

Maybe this is how he is coached and the play design though. Tony could just throw wherever he wants though too, i know, but just a thought. It could be red's direction on how to run the play. Like you get this coverage here, throw it...if not, there here, etc...
