Yet another undeserved promotion?
Really?
This sounds like some kind of a crazy corporate move.
"Ted's not very good in his current role, maybe he'd be a better fit as a manager?"
"Ted's not handling managing very well, maybe a VP job would be a better position?"
"This VP thing isn't working, let's make Ted our CEO."
At some point, maybe Ted just sucks...
Garrett needed help as an offensive coordinator, needs help as a head coach, and now people are talking about him as a GM?
Bizarro-land.

Very good post, YR.
I know Jerry regrets not giving Chan more of a chance at head coach, but IIRC it was Gailey's decision. IIRC Jerry gave him an ultimatum to either hire an OC or get fired. Chan chose to leave. I wish Jerry would give Jason the same ultimatum.
Even if they don't want to hire a new OC, they have Callahan already sitting there with the title of OC. They could just put him in charge of the offense and give it a try. It couldn't be any worse.

Good post.
To me a microcosm of the lack of leadership can be found in one play with the Cowboys driving early in the game.
Jason Witten, as he so often does, inexplicably jumps offsides helped turning what could been a big opening drive TD into three points.
It just another example of how crappy the leadership is from the old core. Both he and Ware have at least one of these brainfarts a game. It's inexcusable.

Could be that some believe that is the only thing he's actually good at. He's a terrible play caller/game planner imho. But I believe he's actually done well with the draft, free agency, and churning the roster. He just needs zero input on game day.

cut the cord already
this guy has proven nothing that justifies giving him a promotion

I never said promote Garrett to VP, GM or anything else.
IMO, Garrett is out of his element as a head coach but seems to be a pretty good judge of talent. I don't see what's so bizarre about wanting to keep him in the organization as a personnel guy. Is it feasible? Probably not. I'm sure JG wants to coach. But I think his talent lies in personnel assemblage and that he'd make a good GM somewhere some day.

I think Jerry is finally getting ready to invite Garrett to a restaurant and bust out the cocktail napkin ala TO.

YR,
I give you credit for calling your shot last week as I was the one who thought it was an odd statement.
Although I disagree that we got blown out or that we didn't have a chance to win, I never expected them to put up 38 points.
If our defense doesn't let them get that FG on their final drive, I would have taken our chances to see if we could have tied the game.

Great piece. Your Syracuse analogies remind me of my college team's Jeff Tedford. JT did so many great things and rescued Cal, but low graduation rates and poor plays...Now time to get the Sean Payton of CFB to take us back to the next level.

It pains me...
...to say this, but clearly something is wrong with the Cowboys.
Since the Johnson departure we have had our fair share of coaches and players come through, but we cannot seem to establish a culture of excellence or even continuous improvement for that matter.
This year's Cowboys seem to be a undisciplined and unfocused group. They say the right things and at times perform amazing feats on the field, but often this is combined with pure bonehead pre snap incidents or uncontested errors.
Is it me or are parts of the team just lack "football intelligence"?
No matter how physically gifted we are the team seems to show a poor mental side on the field.
Last, is there a trend of players unable to stay on the field? Injuries are injuries, but when you can't get through two or three seasons relatively injury free it makes the prospect of being a contributing player dimmer for the team.
I expected this year not to be a playoff year necessarily, but I did want to see some trending upward.
I'm not sure if we are witnessing this on the field.
You can pick your targets to blame, but ultimately Jerry has to shoulder the questions about his organization's performance. It is his job to assemble the team and pattern the behavior for success.

YR
I have been reading multiple forums for the past few years. I have came across some good posters but you are a different guy.
I enjoy reading your posts after each game.
I would love to see your opinion about rest of the season for NFC East.

The proof is in the pudding with this team. We routinely get blown out (not even just beat, but embarrassed) when things matter most. We barely beat the bad teams and always lose to the better ones. People keep saying we're unpredictable, that you never know how this team will play. But it's actually very easy to predict. And many people around here had the Skins whooping our butts on national TV.
They just don't have 'it'. I don't see any 'it' with this team, even though we have many many special players.
[View Full Quote]Payton, I believe as well, is a possibility. It's very interesting he hasn't just resigned already or flat-out said he's coming back. Of course, he's a smart man and he can stand to make ALOT of money if he bluffs the Saints into thinking he's leaving. And that may be all that he's doing. But I'm still holding out hope.
I agree. I would love to see Garrett just be the GM and not the head coach. I think he'd be great at the job. Fantastic even.
But he can't handle live bullets. He's not a gameday-type guy. I really really want to like him, but this fundamental coaching quality is obviously missing.

Garrett as GM? Good god. Do you want him to keep failing up the ladder?
