Default I keep hearing about how Romo isn't a good fit for Garrett's offense..

That he's too much of a gunslinger, risk taker, etc. Garrett wants someone more like Aikman.

I just think that's ridiculous considering I just watched Jim Harbaugh take a second year QB in his second career start, on the road for his first career road start and beat a division opponent. A QB who plays a completely different style of football than that of the guy who was SF's previous starter the last year and a half.

I don't know about "completely different", he and Smith are pretty similar in a lot of ways.

I've never heard anyone say Romo isn't a good fit for Garrett's offense.

Nor have I, but I was playing along. If he could just play in the first half like he does in the second half, he'd be a great fit for anyone.

Their games are pretty different. Smith isn't anywhere near the running threat he was coming out of college. In fact, he rarely runs at all anymore.

They're actually fairly similar, but with all due respect...what does Harbaugh's system and his ability to tailor it to whoever is starting have to do with Dallas and Jason Garrett?

There was a big discussion about it in one of the Garrett threads on Thanksgiving night. Quite a few people made the argument that Romo isn't a "Garrett-style" QB and that he doesn't know how to adjust to Romo's game.

That's it's refreshing to see a coach tailor his gameplan to his talent rather than Garrett continuing to try to fit a square peg into a round hole.

While that may be true, Smith is nowhere near being a pocket passer. He may not go past the line of scrimmage a lot, but he moves around, and gets outside the pocket just as much as anyone.

I honestly don't follow you. If he doesn't fit with what Garrett does, how do you explain the second half explosion of offense, seemingly every week?

Because the game plan goes out the window when your getting your *** handed to you.

Seemingly every week? What week this year did you start watching Cowboys games? This second half "explosion" only happened the last two weeks and I think those are likely attributed to defenses playing softer with a big lead and more uptempo/no huddle offense (which Garrett seems to refuse to do unless we're down by 3 scores).

Maybe because Garrett finally gets around to making the necessary and correct adjustments to his game plan which allows Romo to get the job done. Frankly, I'm beginning to think that Garrett simply lacks the necessary learning he would have acquired if he hadn't been perhaps permaturely grabbed by Jerry Jones as the Cowboys future Landry. Look at Payton; he's just 2 years older then Garrett but had a lot of football offensive experience both in NY and in Dallas with Parcells. Now some might cite the advantage to the Saints in signing Drew Brees. But Brees was now where near the Brees he became once Payton got his hands on him. Just imagine how good a QB Romo could be if he had Payton coaching him. Don't forget, Payton offerred Jerry a 3rd rounder for Romo just as soon as he took over coaching the Saints. Payton tried to grab Romo before ending up signing Brees. Brees himself often said how often Payton bragged about how good Romo was and could become.
