this time last year the nyg were 6-5 but lost the week 13 game to fall to 6-6. At 6-6 they began to play each week like a playoff game. they largely improved in two areas. the DBs started to get healthier and simply play better. the ol slowly improved as they got into the playoffs. at the start of this stretch their ol was as bad as ours has been.

they were in all out eli save us mode weekly really because they couldn't run a lick.

the similarities are very strong with this 2012 cowboys team. people were once again chirping about coughlin getting fired even.

us having this lightning in a bottle stuff happen is insanely unlikely. but getting to the playoffs is decidedly less long odds. if dallas wins this week as a 10 point favorite at home, they go to 50/50 odds according to most playoff predictors. the odds are probably even higher than that given new orleans losing last night now and seattle about to lose their starting cbs for the rest of the season.

the games:
w v philly
l at cincy
w v steelers (they got more bad news on raperberger this morning)
w v new orleans who is probably eliminated at this point.
WASH --- Dallas is 8-7 playing for playoff spot in about every possible scenario. COULD be playing for division title even.

so long as dallas wins all but 1 game and loses that 1 game to cincy or the steelers they are in pretty good shape.

as hard as winning 4 of 5 may be, they at least control about 90% of their destiny STILL.

will this beat up, low iq at times football team rise to the occasion??? quite possibly not. but you don't give up with everything you play for still out there for the taking.

i have said for weeks now this team is juts good enough to break our hearts. i really do believe that.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

The biggest difference I see is the Giants didnt lose their best two middle linebackers for the season. I just don't think Dallas can keep teams from scoring now. There is a gaping hole in the center of the defense.

We have been decimated on defense. Which just puts more pressure on the offense.

It will take a miracle to get to the playoffs. But how would be ever win if we got there. We aren't nearly as talented right now as the 2011 Giants were.

One could argue Ernie Sims and Dan Connor are nearly as good as the Giants LBs from last year. MLB and WLB. Boley and Kiwanuka are solid players but hardly Sean Lee and Bruce Carter. Herzlich and Blackburn started 6 games between them.

Overall I agree with you, that this team is far more injured and beat up. And I am definitely NOT suggesting we are watching some magical SB win run. I still think this team can fight and claw their way to a meaningful week 17. If they get through that and play a meaningful week 18 I am a happy fan.

I agree with you esp. the last part. I don't expect many things from this team but they find a way to hurt me still lol. I expect them to be in a position where if they win, they're in, lose, out

And I expect to be hurt again lol.

Nobody on this board should be looking at a playoff picture until we beat Cincy

This a complete throw away post.

Anyone who cares if the Cowboys make the playoffs or not should have some idea what it would take to do so.

What is clear is that you haven't studied it much when you make posts like the above.

Dallas doesn't need to beat Cincy to make it. In fact of all the games remaining Cincy is probably the most logical loss.

With Big Ben still hurting, he might not even play in the Cowboy game. The Saints are already pretty much done after last night. I'm not saying the Cowboys will go on a run but the only teams that they face coming up that will be healthy and fighting for a spot are the Bengals and maybe Skins last week.

I thought the Giants Dline also got healthy. So did Bradshaw.

But your reasoning makes sense. If somehow, this team does (mostly) still control it's destiny. Go 4-1 and that almost certainly will do it.

Tuck and Pierre-Paul missed a few games but Akumara missed like 10 and they dont have the quality depth at DB they do at DL. He came back and gave them some quality CB depth. Phillips, Rolle and Grant gave them plus safety play the last month plus.

Don't think Bradshaw topped 60 yards rushing that last month. He might have been a beast in the playoffs though. NYG use a RB by committee generally.

Watching them the difference in coverage was so huge. Game 1 this year we also feasted on terrible coverage. Definitely different team with all their CBs healthy.

Well if they are sitting at 6-7 next week after losing to cincy that means they have to win out and that's probably not possible.

Winning an OT nailbitter agains the power house Browns and then getting destroyed by a rookie QB on Thanksgiving kinda took the wind out of the sails for most fans.

Cant say I blame them, I have no faith at all that this team can make the playoffs.

Dallas doesnt need to beat Cincy to make the playoffs? So we are running the table in our other 4 games, because 8-8 aint getting it done for playoffs.

We have to be 9-7 at a minimium, that means only 1 loss the rest of the season. If that one loss is Cincy, then we go 4-0 against the rest of our remaining schedule, which includes a trip to DC to play the Skins again who just embarrassed us on Thanksgiving.

Why isn't it possible? There's not a team we can't beat on the schedule. It may not be likely, but that's another matter.

If you're going to the playoffs anyway, this is the quarter of the season when you want your guys to be hot. We've got a favorable schedule and a shot at both the wildcard and the NFCE still. And we're getting a bit healthier. Just see what happens next week, and then see what happens the week after that. There's still a lot of football to play, and a couple of these NFC teams are going to end up qualifying. They all look flawed to me.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

That might be your opinion, but it's not true right now. We could make the playoffs at 8-8, and it's not even a far-fetched possibility.
