If we cannot get a top tier OLB/DE, then trade back and pick up a xtra second and third and get a C and a G.
I think that Ryan thinks Church can get it done at Safety; so realistically the D should be OK except for OLB as regards Spencer; he will almost certainly get offered too much for us to match.
The young guys we have on the D line are just going to have to be enough this coming year; hopefully with much better results then the young guys on the O line the last two years.
O line is the need. And with the cap situation as it is I doubt we can get much that is any good in FA. So it will have to be the draft.

You're setting yourself up for a bad draft. You can not fixate on needs. What if we're picking 16th and the 6th overall player on our board is still available and he happens to be a DT while the next guy is 14th and he's a WR. The first OL is sitting there at 20. Everybody in the room is telling you he's not near the player of that DT. We reach for the OL? We trade down and miss out on what our scouts tell us is an elite talent?
This is one of the reasons why teams stack bad classes together. Constantly chasing needs during a talent acquisition process.
Take the talent.

Last I heard he was on the Lions' practice squad.
As tempting as it is, avoid this OL or bust mentality in the draft. Stack your board and stick to it. If a trade down represents more value than the player at our spot, do it. But don't do it simply to better position yourself to fill a need.

This is along the lines I was thinking. Warmack, Cooper, and Hankins have all excelled at the college level but I feel like Hankins game is less refined. There's more potential to be realized with Hankins. However, this team has proven it can do more with less on the d-line as opposed to o-line.

You always balance need with BPA. No one really goes all BPA despite what they say.
Frankly if a guy is ranked 16th in that round and he is a need then you trade down some.
But as long as he is rated as being worthy of that round pick why is it a reach?
If the guy can play that is all that matters.
This VALUE bull**** is just that. Is the guy a first rd pick? Yes or no.
Is the guy a second round pick? Yes or no. As long as the answer is a yes then pick him.

"Value bull****". That's a new one.
It's a reach because he's not the best player on your board per the scouting department you hire to make those determinations. You are reaching around a better player to fill a need. It's pretty much the worst way you can run your draft.

I think an extra 2nd or 3rd in this years draft would be very valuable.
Sheldon Richardson might be a better addition to the Cowboys DL than Hankins because, IMO, he is a more disruptive pass-rusher.
Matthews at #10? That seems really high.
Reid at #15?

I had rather get rid of the zone blocking scheme and Callahan if it means Warmack wouldn't fit. I liked DeCastro last year due to his fit in the ZBS, but Cordy Glenn and Osemele were more of the type of linemen I would like to see. I like power smashmouth football. To.hell with the finesse stuff.

Burm you realize the Chiefs dont have a choice. No way they can trot Cassel and Quinn out there next year and expect anybody to show up. They have to sell hope. I would not pick him number one but it will probably happen.

aT 16 Warmack is arguably the BA on the board and fills a need.

Yep, good point. Don't scoff at Geno 1st overall. QBs are always over drafted. Maybe the Chiefs can trade down a little and still get him.

What if the CB Dee Milliner falls to #16 and the Cowboys have him rated as the BPA?

IT is BS. all this crap about 'reaches'
Is the guy considered a pick worthy of that round? YES OR NO.
If he is and he is in a position of need versus slightly higher ranked players at positions of strength then take him.
IF your draft board is correct then the players all should help you.
How do you compare worth of a DB vs a TE vs a WR vs a OT or OG?
You really cannot.

I'm a huge proponent of the BPA drafting philosophy, but that doesn't mean automatically selecting the top remaining player on your board. You have to consider what the team needs too, and use trades to maximize the talent you can get to fill your holes. Womack is widely being graded as a top-5 player in this draft. How would he not be a "value" selection in the mid-teens?
