Default Best Tequila?

Need a little help here guys. I have a co-worker who is retiring and he is a pretty big Tequila fan. Our office has thrown in some cash and I have about $300 to spend. Just trying to get some ideas from other Tequila lovers. By all means, doesn't need to be a overpriced fancy bottle like some sell (saw a machine gun and a rifle in Specs today-pretty cool, but have no idea on the quality of what's inside).

Myself, made the mistake years ago of being 18 - Cancun - too much Tequila - I mean WAY TOO much Tequila. Can't stand the stuff ever since...

Cuervo Tres Generaciones.

I'm with you, I can't stand the smell of the stuff due to a spring break experience.

Another way to go would be to buy a series of relatively inexpensive "boutique" tequilas and package them together. One of my father's subcontractors in Mexico did that for a pilon/Xmas present for him last year.

A lot of People like Patron, including me funny thing is I prefer the Silver over the Gold. Gold is suppose to be better quality and I know other people that have said the same thing.

Jose Curevo has some premium versions like Black Etc and their are a few other brands but I have not tried them.

My Vote is get a Bottle of Patron Silver as one of the Bottles

Some others may have another brand they like and chime in with some suggestions

How does he like to drink his tequila? Does he sip it straight up, or does he use it in mixed drinks? Don't waste money on a top shelf tequila for mixed drinks. Don Julio Blanco is a very good tequila and you can find it anywhere from 50-70 bucks. I prefer mine straight up, chilled with a twist of lime.

Herradura Anejo is my all-time favorite. Way better than Patron, imo.

*And emmitt Smith has done ads for them.

Me and Tequila are good friends. I'm no connesseiur, but I do love the stuff.

Jose Cuervo is always good in a pinch.

Patron is good, and it's smooth.

Another that some friends turned me on to is Antigua Cruz. The bottle looks like Patron, but I find it to be waaay smoother. No burning, after taste.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

There is one called Maestro Dobel, it's from the Cuervo people. It is the best tequila I've ever tasted. Also Don Julio 70.

They are both Añejo Claro, what this means is that they go through the same process (Garrett) as the regular gold tequila but these are clear and a lot smoother. The bottles and presentation for both are top notch.

They should cost about 60 bucks a pop in the US, they are fairly new here in Mexico so I'm not shure if you can find them over there but if you can I highly recommend either one.

Hope that helps.

That's going to get you one or more very nice bottles of tequila. I can personally recommend Don Julio 1942 (also comes in a beautiful bottle with a nice case, just gave one as a gift)

If you're looking at around $300. I'd go with a bottle of each of the Cabo Wabo. The three normal will run $120-150 for all depending on in which state you live. While the Cabo Uno usually runs over $100 per bottle.

Tequila tends to make people mean. I generally avoid it. The only time I do drink it is when I'm around someone who can make a mean (pun intended) Margarita.

It all depends on what you are looking for. Personally, one of the best tequilas I have tasted is "Reserva de la Familia" and I have seena two liter bottle that you make your friend very, very happy.

I you do not want to go the fancy route, that Don julio Blanco or Herradura Blanco will make him very happy. I n general I always go with white tequilas (which are supposed to be younger) than añejos (or aged) since you do not really know if this aging is chemical or based on time.
