Early 2013 50 Man Roster-??
Wow is it early to be doing this but I thought it would give us something to work on. I've assumed certain players leaving/cut and several players staying. I think once we see the holes left to fill that most, if not all, will see this team can be better next year, and possibly a lot better. The FO, Scouts and Coaches will have to do their jobs correctly. This is a "No Miss Draft" and Free Agency. This Roster will change, possibly considerably, by next August. Not all will agree with the players leaving/returning, but feel free to offer your thoughts.
50 Man Roster( No LS,K,P)
OFFENSE: (25)
LT--Smith, Parnell
LG--Livings, Kowalski
C --Costa, New Player(combo C/G)
RG--Bernadeau, New Player(combo G/C/T)
RT--Free, New Player
TE--Witten, Hanna, Phillips( not sure if he returns)
WR--Bryant. Austin, Harris, Beasley, Coale, New Player(tall, speed, hands)
QB--Romo, Orton
RB--Murray, New Player(bigger, 3 down back, speed), Tanner or Dunbar(only one of these needed-possibly cut both)
FB--New Player
Just because a player is listed first doesn't mean he will be the Starter. A few are regarded as back ups.
DEFENSE: (25)
OLB--Ware, Spencer, Wilbur, Albright, New PLayer
DE --Hatcher, Lissemore, Crawford, New Player
NT--Ratliff, Brent, New Player
LB--Lee, Connor(not sure if he will be back), Carter, Lemon(?)
CB--Claiborne, Scandrick, Carr, New Player
SS--Church, McCray, New Player
FS--Sensabaugh, Johnson
Well there's the first shot at the 2013 50 man roster. Feel free to comment.

OFFENSE: (25)
LT--Smith, Parnell
I would like to see Parnell replace Free.
LG--Livings, Kowalski
C --Costa, New Player(combo C/G)
They need a draft pick here. Cook cannot run block.
RG--Bernadeau, New Player(combo G/C/T)
RT--Free, New Player
Cut Free and add draft picks. Free's cap hit is 11.175M if he stays. I could see 2 to 3 OL draft picks, but only 1 starting.
If a FA is added, it would be more likely an OG, but OT is not out of the question if Free is cut.
TE--Witten, Hanna, Phillips( not sure if he returns)
I think they would prefer to replace Phillips with a better blocker.
WR--Bryant. Austin, Harris, Beasley, Coale, New Player(tall, speed, hands)
It is a Free-for-All for the last couple of spots here. Draft pick, Anthony Armstrong or Practice Squad guy.
QB--Romo, Orton
Yes. Mid round pick is possible, but unlikely IMO.
RB--Murray, New Player(bigger, 3 down back, speed), Tanner or Dunbar(only one of these needed-possibly cut both)
Yes, they need a draft pick here. It could be a mid to late rounder.
FB--New Player
Vickers will come to camp. I'm not sure where the competition comes from. Somebody mentioned John Conner being available.
DEFENSE: (25)
OLB--Ware, Spencer, Wilbur, Albright, New PLayer
Yes, they need a draft pick here. Albright stays because of Special Teams. He looks like he bulked up too much at LB.
DE --Hatcher, Lissemore, Crawford, New Player
Yes, they need more pass rush here. Draft pick or two.
NT--Ratliff, Brent, New Player
Doubtful to have 3 NT only players. More likely a 2nd DE or DE/NT.
LB--Lee, Connor(not sure if he will be back), Carter, Lemon(?)
Connor is too expensive (4.35M hit to keep, 1.35M to cut). Sims could return. Lemon, McSurdy and Jerry Franklin in the competition.
CB--Claiborne, Scandrick, Carr, New Player
They probably keep 5 here. They need 1 draft pick.
S--Church, McCray, Sensabaugh, Johnson, New Player
Need a draft pick here.

Good chance Free gets cut. Would not shock me to see a new skill player at any position as a high draft choice, depends who falls.

Cutting Free sounds all well and good until you realize that its gonna cost $8M just for him to go away. We'd save $2M sure, but do you really see Jerry paying that much for Free to go away? I personally don't see that happening. I see him given another shot for sure. Even though I dont really agree with it I think its the unfortunate truth.

The Cowboys have 8.35M against the cap from Free's prorated signing bonus. That goes against the cap in 2013 and 2014 with or without him on the team.
Free's base salary in 2013 is 7M.
Therefore, his total "cost" is:
Cut = 8.35M (2013 cap hit = 4.175M)
Keep = 15.35M (2013 cap hit = 11.175M)
You don’t know what you don’t know.
