I see. The modifying words "somewhat of a" before the word "punk" precludes a strict Merriam Websters Dictionary definition. I like Star Trek. It's one of my favorite SciFi series, but I admit, I have never read any of the novels. So, if you want to argue Roddenberry's writing of the original characters versus the reboot's new characters, I think I'll just pass.

One Kirk grew up with a father and the the other did not. That shaped the development of the character. The whole idea is there are supposed to be some differences and still some similarities between the two Kirks.

Word for word what I think. I hated Avatar, but if someone else liked it more power to them. I've watched all the Star Trek's minus DS9 (because that show was boring), and for the most part enjoyed all the movies. I am in no way an expert, but I was entertained so I watch, and for a sci-fi movie to be more "real" is kind of weird thing to think about.

Star Trek isn't supposed to tear us apart. It's supposed to bring us together.

Personally, I liked the scene where the Enterprise destroys the Star Destroyer with one photon torpedo to the bridge, proving once and for all who is superior.

It is the same universe.

Star Wars happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. In Episode I there is a scene in the senate where you see E.T.'s. In E.T., this race of E.T.'s is able to travel from their galaxy to the Milky Way galaxy and make it to Earth. In the future on Earth, eventually the stuff in Star Trek will occur. Hence, the same universe.
