Out of that list, I'd consider Terrence Knighton and that'a about it. Maake is too old and I'm willing to bet rotates a ton with Terrence Cody. Sammie Lee Hill and Desmond Bryant will likely be re-signed. Corey Williams/Shaun Cody are rotational players at best. And Aubrayo Franklin and Isaac Sopoagaare too old to persue.

Even then, I wouldn't throw a ton of money at Knighton.

I made a thread about Desmond Bryant few weeks back, I think he would be a good 3-4 DE and nickel DT.
I have also talked out Knighton.

I want both and both will be available. Jacksonville is moving to a defense with pass rushing DTs, so they should let him walk. Oakland is having cap problems so Bryant should also be available.

A player that I want that might be hard to get is Michael Johnson from Cincy.
6-7 275 and has 8 sacks and only 25.

All three is my dream

FWIW, Johnson would be an OLB here

Just because he plays DE in a 4-3 doesn't mean he would be a OLB in a 3-4. At 6 feet 7 inches and 275 pounds, he could easily get over 280 and play DE on the weakside in a 3-4

has nothing to do with him playing in a 4-3. JJ Watt played in a 4-3, yet almost anybody could recognize that he needed to play in a 3-4 in the NFL.

It's about height vs weight and right now, he has a lot of one and very little (compared to players at the position) of another.

The lightest 3-4 end in the league now is likely Justin Smith at 285. And he's 6'4, not 6'7.

With his height, he would need to be 290 minimum imo, almost like Chris Canty coming out.

To each their own, I think he could do a fine job on the weak side and could gain 10 pounds no problem to his frame. Right now yes he is to narrow to play the position but tyrone Crawford balked up over the offseason to 285, so it can be done.

Also I doubt it matters and the bengals resign him.
That's why I said it was a dream of mine.

But knighton and Bryant should be available and jerry should jump at them.

Crawford is a reserve and will continue to be one till he further bulks up.

I just can't see any way a 6'7 285 pound guy can play DE in a 3-4. And then you want to pay the amount of money it would take and gamble that he could a.) handle the weight and b.) learn a completely new position.....

I love me some Isaac Sopoaga. That guy is a physical freak. Can play either NT or DE. Doubt the 9ers would let him walk, but if he's an option I snatch him up without hesitation.

And even if we get someone in FA I would still take a D-Lineman in the top 3 rounds. We need more production from the line, especially with Brent gone and Ratliff a huge question mark.
