My first round projection 12/11/12....
I figured I'd take a stab at it. No doubt I'll rip this up in a couple of weeks. I didn't want to include trades because I think it gets ridiculous to project those. So it was hard to slot the QBs. I think the Chiefs would desperately be looking to trade down before making this pick but that's not an option here. Geno rises on workouts and gets the usual QB overdraft.
There can be no arguing over the Cowboys' pick. Just pick a spot on the wall for his poster.
1. Kansas City Chiefs - Geno Smith QB West Virginia
2. Jacksonville Jaguars - Damontre Moore OLB Texas A&M
3. Oakland Raiders - Jarvis Jones OLB Georgia
4. Arizona Cardinals - Luke Joeckel T Texas A&M
5. Carolina Panthers - Star Lotulelei DT Utah
6. Philadelphia Eagles - Taylor Lewan T Michigan
7. Detroit Lions - Manti Te'o ILB Notre Dame
8. Tennessee Titans - Dee Milliner CB Alabama
9. Cleveland Browns - Bjoern Werner DE Florida St.
10. Buffalo Bills - Barkevious Mingo DE LSU
11. Miami Dolphins -Cordarrelle Patterson WR Tennessee
12. San Diego Chargers - Eric Fisher T Central Michigan
13. New Orleans Saints - Johnathan Hankins DT Ohio St.

I can get behind any NT pick that the coaching staff believes is worth the pick, not to mention plenty of guards and tackles should be available in rounds 2 & 3

Don't we have a defensive coach who was at UNC?

The general order of the picks seem fairly reasonable; however, I don't like the Cowboys pick considering the other options available.
Does Williams have the ability to be a dominant pass rusher? Will he play in the nickel 4-man line? The Cowboys only play a 3-4 with a true NT about half of the snaps.
I would prefer Cooper, Barr and maybe Richardson.

That position 19 I expect to be around 14-15. I still expect pass rusher. Perpetual neck injuries for Ware taking their toll and Spencer is iffy to return.

Seeing we may need two defensive tackles after this year, I like the pick.
I know we need OL and S to but just like it was mentioned in this thread already, we can address those needs in round 2-3.

Yea, at this point, whether we keep Ratliff or not, he's a total unkown. So drafting 2 D-linemen isn't out of the question.
RDE- Marcus Spears, Tyrone Crawford
NT- Sylvester Williams, ???
LDE- Jason Hatcher, Sean Lissimore
Between Spears and Ratliff, I can't imagine both being brought back. If not, I can see using a 6th on a second NT, especially if a big space eater falls.

He's very mobile and quick for a 300+ lb'r, and UNC does mix it up between a 4-3 and 3-4. From what I've seen, he plays some DE in the 3-4 lineups. Sometimes NT. They move him around. High motor.
One thing to note about him is he'll be an old rookie. Would turn 25 I think sometime during rookie year season. Plays like a 1st rounder but I'd never give an older rookie a slot higher then mid-2nd round.
I agree with you tho - Cooper or Barr would be my picks if going BPA.

In this scenario we have Bruce Davis who will give us all the INFO we need.
I'd take whoever is the better player between Sylvester and Cooper.
I don't see us ever taking a guard in the 1st round though.

Give me Cooper. OL is a much bigger need than DL, even with Brent and Ratliff possibly gone, which I don't think Ratliff will be.
Also, no way Geno Smith goes #1 overall.

If you are going to pick a D player in the first he HAS to be a pass rusher.

There is not a QB this year worth a top 10 pick. Frankly I don't see any really worth a top 20. But then QBs always get over drafted
