Blue Jays Odds On Favorites to Win the World Series
http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/ey...eries-favorite
The Blue Jays have made the big splash this offseason much like the Marlins did last year. On paper things look good . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . but they still have to go out and do it.
The Blue Jays got a bunch of guys that helped the Marlins win 69 games last year and finish last in the NL East. They got Dickey from the Mets.
A lotta money and a lotta pressure. High expectations will put the pressure on these guys.
We'll see if these guys are the Dream Team like the Filthadelphia Eagles were or if they can come close to meeting expectations.

Yes, because the players the Jays got from the Marlins, are the ones that made them suck so bad....
They are all good players, no doubt about that. They are an upgrade to the Jays rotation for sure. It can only help them...help them to what degree though, that's the real question.
I see the Jays making the wildcard spot, but it's crazy to think they are the odds-on favorites, considering they haven't made the playoffs in a longgggg time.
Until i see them performing well, i will stay hopeful but realistic. I expect a wild-card spot, nothing more.

Ya I think they have a solid team but no way do I see them as the favorites to go all the way. They should definitely be playing in October though.

Washington Nationals should be the favorites.

Dickey is going to get slammed now that he is back in the AL, especially since its the AL East. Don't get me wrong; Toronto will probably be good, but I am laughing at all this talk about how great Dickey is.

Yep, that's why I didn't want him on the Rangers.

I am a Mets fan and watched every game he has pitched. I am sad to see him go
But, he will have some rocky starts in the AL, but he should be ok in the long run.
I think he would help the Mets more than he will help Toronto though, it is a bigger loss for NY than a bigger gain for the Blue Jays.
Everyone has a plan, until they get hit.

Look what happened to Dempster last season. He was right up there with Dickey in ERA then the AL happened; and I'd rather have Dempster on my team than Dickey.

Really? I don't know anybody that would agree with you.
Dickey's ER the past three years :
Earned Runs for 2010: 55
Earned Runs for 2011: 76
Earned Runs for 2012: 71 (In 34 games)
Oh and he won the Cy Young last year.
Dempster :
ER for 2010: 92
ER for 2011: 108
ER for 2012: 65 (In only 28 games)
Dickey eats more innings, lets in less runs, both around the same age, and knuckleballs totally screw up a batter's timing. Dempsters stats are all getting worse as he gets older, Dickey is the opposite...the past 3 years he's been getting better and better while Dempster goes downhill slowly.
And i didn't even mention BAA or WHIP (Which Dickey is better in both categories). Or that Dempster that has 1 complete game in 2 years, while Dickey has 8. Or the fact that Dempster walks more batters and strikes out less batters.
But hey, if you rather have Dempster...fine by me.

Again, look at facts before saying this. People keep talking without knowing what they are saying.
Last 3 years Team G GS W L SV BS HLD CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA
2010 NYM 27 26 11 9 0 0 1 2 1 174.1 165 62 55 13 42 104 2.84 1.19 .251
2011 NYM 33 32 8 13 0 0 1 1 0 208.2 202 85 76 18 54 134 3.28 1.23 .256
2012 NYM 34 33 20 6 0 0 0 5 3 233.2 192 78 71 24 54 230 2.73 1.05 .226
That's 3 good years in a row, including 2 great ones.

3 good years... in the NL... for a knuckleballer.
Dempster had a 2.25 ERA last season until he joined the Rangers. Guess what happened after that? 5.05 ERA.

I don't care what he did before, the fact that last year, he won a Cy Young...is good enough for me to pick him over Dempster.
Every other stat i posted, shows that he's better. I'm not comparing Dickey to other pitchers, only Dempster...and clearly he's much better in the past 3 years.

Knuckleballers are different animals. When they are on their game, they can be unhittable.
Dickey could do just fine in the AL. He certainly gave the Orioles fits in interleague play last year. But we shall see. Id be surprised to see him duplicate last year though.

Still happy the Rangers never signed Dickey.
I thought the Blue Jays would be better than what they are so far though.
