Fox, NBC vie for piece of Cowboys-Redskins showdown
By Dan Hanzus
Around the League Writer
Like Homer Simpson protecting the last case of Duff on Earth, Fox is fighting hard to hold on to its potential Week 17 gold mine.
According to The Dallas Morning News, Fox and NBC are "locked in intense lobbying" to secure the rights to Week 17's matchup between the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys, a game that could decide the NFC East title.
If the Cowboys and Redskins are in a win-or-go-home scenario, it will be a ratings juggernaut for whoever airs it. As a football fan -- and a fan of NBC's top-rate production -- we're pulling for the flex.

I'm hoping for NBC, myself. I think that they do it better than anybody out there.

If only this could be used as leverage to do away with next years cap penalty.

BTW, this is a team where Garrett is on the hot seat due to apathy right?
Networks openly fighting to carry our games....

agreed x100.
Even without the awesome slate of Sunday night TV (Dexter, Homeland, Walking Dead) I'd much rather watch this in daylight.

This just shows Dallas is as coveted on TV as ever. Which makes the points people make about apathy seem quite silly. Especially considering they were so apathetic themselves they took the time to post on a message board about it.

I remember Troy being upset last year when that last game was flexed.
I imagine he won't be thrilled if this game is flexed

I was under the impression NBC had the ability to choose any Sunday game they wished.

there are supposed to be "some" protections fox has.
but ultimately NBC gets their pick 99% of the time.
again the fact this game is big enough to actually fight over says all you need to know about the state of "america's team".

Fox -- which has aired NFC games since 1994 -- currently has the matchup on their schedule for next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. If the game ends up deciding the NFC East, the NFL could flex it to the Sunday night slot on NBC.
