Sadly, yes. There were plenty who thought keeping Bennett was the smart move. RtH, at least, isn't slinking away from that take.
Bennett was a knucklehead. I had hopes for him because of his immense athletic potential, but I didn't like the pick, and I didn't like him or his personality from day one. I'm glad he's gone, I don't particularly wish him well with his career. The NFL should be for players who are willing to give whatever it takes to stay in the league. I don't like players who take it for granted.
I liked Phillips better, anyway. And I like Hana more than Phillips. Not all that slowly, but surely, we're getting rid of the wrong types of guys and drafting the right ones.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

The real point is Bennett will have maddeningly unfulfilled talent for the next ten years which always gives hope for the following season! "We got a shot this year if Bennett takes the next step!!!" Witten is good and we know it so we have nothing to look forward to but more of the same!

I'm a Witten fan, but last I checked, people are entitled to their opinion. A lot of people are saying Ware is done because he's riddled with injuries. When he's posting 20 sacks next year, other people will say, you're dumb for giving up on Ware (something I've never done by the way)
But remember, everyone has an opinion. And no one is right, until they're proven right, and vice versa. I've been wrong about some things, and I've been right about MOST things.

I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don't have expectations lived up to, the one that should get the most heat is the one that ultimately makes the decisions, period, with the Dallas Cowboys. And that's me."

You're going to have to show me where this board was for keeping Benett over Witten.
Bennett was a bad pick from day 1. Period. Our scouts had him pegged and told Jerry we'd have to keep our foot on his throat (almost an exact quote). And Jerry still drafted him. Horrible, horrible pick.
Bennett had his shot here. If he could have caught the ball when his number was called, he would have had more chances. I was sick of seeing balls bounce of his hands at the most inopportune moments and, even worse, get picked after it bounced off his hands. He never had the work ethic or mind set to make himself a better player. Witten tried working with him and he just wouldn't listen. Good riddance.

Awesome.
"I just always feel that he's going to find a way to win the game…He has evolved into a great, great leader of the team...He is the total package." Roger Staubach about Tony Romo
"They're a talented group with a great quarterback, and they're well on their way." Troy Aikman on the Cowboys and Tony Romo
But what do Roger and Troy know about great quarterbacking, talent, leadership, and winning anyway?

He did have a role with this team. He played alot of snaps as our blocking TE/3rd OT. Garrett praised him for his effort and accpeting his role and performing it well. He was one of the best, if not the best in the league at blocking. He left for a chance to start, which he wasn't going to get with Witten here, understandably.
People who harbor ill feelings towards him or say he dogged it simply had it out for him to begin with. His first two years here weren't the same as his last two.

..and it still would have been smart to keep him for that salary. He wouldn't have stayed though, because he wanted a chance to be a bigger part of the passing game, which he wouldn't have gotten to be here with all the start we have. Understandable why he left, but we miss his blocking.. and he worked hard at it his last couple years here, and excelled at it.
As for him being better than Witten.. that's just silly.
