Default More Tragic News

Early reports are that the guy set the fire to draw police and firefighters in. Whole neighborhood was evacuated at one time I believe, but because news outlets are so short staffed right now, it's hard to find a lot of info.

There are some crazy, deranged people walking around now days. My heart goes out to the fire fighters that lost lives and their families.
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.

Very sad the shape the world is in right now.

Though it is to be expected. Not surprising.

Prayers for the families.

That's it! Ban fires!

On a more serious note. That's a shame and unforgivable. Killing those who are putting their lives on the line to rescue you is despicable. There are truly sick people put there.

Just an update, they released the guy's name earlier today. He's out of jail on parole after murdering his grandmother with a hammer in 1980...sick guy.

There's a connection to the fire department b/c when his mother died earlier this year, any donations went to them, not the family, so it's possible that was his motivation, though he is clearly sick.

Last I heard, his sister who lived with him was unaccounted for.

Not to start a whole gun control thing, but all of his weapons were obtained illegally.

Stuff like this is a lot crazier when its so close to home.

I live in this area and the younger firefighter (19) that was murdered is the son of one of my customers. It is just so sad (especially around the holidays). May the victims rest in peace. The whole community is just devastated. It makes you really think about family and how lucky most of us are.

yea, I know one of the residents that was evacuated. Multiple houses also were badly burned because the fire department could not go in to fight the fire for their own safety. Being right on the lake, all of the houses there are right next to each other.

The wisdom of the death penalty… He should not have taken another breath after being convicted of his grandmothers death.

^ without me debating the death penality, he was convicted of manslaughter.

Nobody is executed for manslaughter.

Which would segue nicely into another example of how our laws are being subverted by allowing a murderer to receive a lesser charge for murdering someone with a hammer.

I of course don't know the details of his crime, but I can imagine he was allowed a lesser charge for simply confession, despite having actually murdered someone with a hammer. He should have been dead a long time now.

^ I don't know the details, but suspect he is one example of a lot of offenders out there waiting to repeat.
