Default NFL.COM: DEZ surgery today Zoners

Zoners: below is the operation on a finger that we ALL should be praying for.......he is the "FRANCHISE" player for sure!

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant tweeted Monday night that he would have surgery on his broken left index finger on Tuesday.

Predictions for Super Bowl XLVII

Who will lift the Lombardi Trophy on Feb. 3 in New Orleans? NFL.com and NFL Network analyts make their Super Bowl picks. More ...

He fractured his finger in Week 14 during a 20-19 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, but finished the season on the field as the Cowboys battled for the NFC East title, losing to the Washington Redskins in the final game of the regular season and missing out on the playoffs.

The third-year pro enjoyed a breakout season in 2012, with 92 receptions for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns.

His best game of the season came after the fracture, a 224-yard, two-touchdown performance in a Week 16 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

The season started rocky off the field for Byrant, who was charged with assaulting his mother -- charges were conditionally dismissed. The incident led to the 'Bryant Rules' in which the wide receiver agreed to a curfew and supervision. The results of the more disciplined approach paied off on the field, as No. 88 emerged as Tony Romo's go-to target and the receiver Jerry Jones envisioned when he drafted him three years ago.

Has anyone heard anything recently about the back problem he had in the last game? I've looked on the team website but couldn't find anything, so I'm assuming it's not a concern long term.

Here's hoping his finger surgery is completely successful.

I read that the xrays were negative and no back damage identified.

Wonder if it was the out of bounds finger from the Giants game.

According to Talkin' Cowboys -- can't remember if it was Mick or Broaddus -- the surgery means he won't be able to bend the index finger at the 1st or 2nd knuckle anymore. The procedure involved fusing the knuckle. Not really following how that's a fix.

I think they said if he had surgery earlier, he would have retained full motion. And apparently he's worked out a system for Madden without the index finger.
