I don't recall one report that said Garrett didn't want Ryan.

I'd like to know who is going to tell him when to throw the challenge flag this year now that Rob is gone.

Personnel decisions? Sure you jest. Have you met this man:
Not much, but Jerry always learns his lessons one coach too late, and at this point, he is going to give Jinger ***** one more year, this time with an OC that runs the gameday plays. If we don't make notable progress, he axes the gingernut...

We're supposed to feel better that Jason is now confirmed to be just another puppet-coach for Jerry who can't even pick his own staff?

I don't think Ryan was really the guy JG wanted in the first place. I like RR, he seemed like a good guy and gave a great interview, but lets not act like he was putting a premium defense on the field week in and week out. I still think red will make a great head coach. We have had some good drafts since he took over, not something we have done consistently. Let him get some more of his guys in here. Firing him and starting over is not conducive to progress, only regression. Then when you guys grow tired of the next coach you will be calling for his head in 2 seasons.

Where's all this talk that Garrett didn't really want Ryan coming from?

That's what I think. I think it was started by some local media guys who love Garrett and are making excuses for him.
Back when he was hired, I remember everyone talking about how cerebral Rob's defense was and how that matched Jason, blah blah blah. Some even said it was smart of Garrett to realize he was a robot and he might need a more emotional counterpart on defense, etc.

I don't, either.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Yep, I remember all that. The "good cop, bad cop" talk. If there was anything to the Garrett not wanting Ryan stuff it would have come out much, much sooner.
