Default Position depth in the draft.

The players to go in the first round have a higher pedigree than those taken later. But my question is, and despite the variation of how deep a position may be year to year in each draft, which one on average are you more likely to find starters or moderate contributors later in the draft? If this is to broad of a question, then specifically apply that question to this year, specifically these positions.

NT
OT
OG
S
OLB
RB
C
If you build it, he will run...

I think there are decent lineman in later rounds. However, we are terrible at drafting that talent. If we don't draft a lineman high chances are we miss on him.

Supposedly the four premium positions in todays NFL (what gets drafted first) are 1) QB 2) LT 3) pass rush 4) shut down corner. Everything else later.

HAHA I do agree with this. But if you had to pick your poison and choose one say round 4 or later, which one and why?

I'll figure this out, allocating points to positions.

With both Matthews and Lewan going back to school this OT draft class got pretty weak in my opinion. Eric Fisher is probably #2 and who the #3 guy is a toss up between guys like Lane Johnson, Dallas Thomas, DJ Fluker, and Oday Aboushi. Those names sounded a lot better when they were being talked about in the late 2nd/3rd.

Deep positions in descending order, second list are positions that are considered "weak". 277 is 'average', sorry for the numbers. Lower is better.

DE - 265
ILB - 267
DT - 268
QB - 273

WR - 277

T - 278
RB - 279
TE - 280
CB - 283
C - 283
S - 283
G - 285
OLB - 287

I would say Running Backs can be found anywhere in the draft. Even un- drafted. Some teams or coaches are better than others at finding guys. Shanahan has been the master of this in the past.

Arian Foster- undrafted
Benjarvus Green-Ellis- undrafted
Fred Jackson- undrafted
Pierre Thomas- undrafted
Ahmad Bradshaw- 7th round
Alfred Morris - 6th round
Michael Turner - 5th round
Vick Ballard - 5th round
Jamaal Charles - 3rd round

Agree with those that say RB...but there is a reason that so few teams take guards in the first round. You can usually find a day one starter in the third...that rarely happens at other positions.
