Default Nexus 7

Who has one and do you have any recommendations for apps and what not? I'm going to be getting one in the next 2 weeks. Any tips would be cool too.

Don't have the phone but I have to tell you I love the new sig. One of my favorite movie quotes ever from a classic

My brother-in-law bought one for my 5 year old nephew (there are tons and tons of games designed for children in his age range), and I was able to use it a good bit while visiting over the holidays. I liked the thing. It's well worth the money, I think. But it certainly feels cheaper made and noticeably smaller than the iPad mini. It also didn't feel as smooth/snappy, and some apps just didn't look as good as the iOS counterpart. For the price, though, that's a nice device. Now, when the iPad mini retina comes out, I wouldn't touch one.

Sorry, can't help you on the apps search. I just was throwing in my thoughts on the device itself.

It's cool. I didn't mind hearing it. I've been an Apple fan forever. I had the first iPod and about 4 or 5 new ones after that. Then every iPhone, a Macbook and currently an iPhone 5 and iMac. I just feel like it's the time to go separate ways for now, at least in regard to mobile devices/tablets. I don't think I will ever part ways with iMacs. I absolutely love them. I just need more customization. The OS for iPhones and iPads bore the crap out of me.

I'm actually considering the Nexus 10 too. If Apple changed its OS I would consider it. I don't see that happening for quite some time though.

Oh and Nexus prices are very competitive as well.

Yeah, it's such a perfect quote for the times we live in when everyones opinion is regarded as fact--as seen on this board but mainly in the media.

I expect some pretty massive (relatively speaking) changes to iOS now with Jony Ive in charge. I can certainly understand the boring comment, but what many people find as boring, others find as an asset. iOS is nearly flawless at this point in terms of just working smooth and without bugs. Every time I pick up an android device I get annoyed with how laggy and buggy the whole thing feels. Tech junkies need constantly changing toys, though. Being a tech junkie, I feel that same way. It's just that the older I get, the more I appreciate tech that just works well ... and fast ... and that looks nice.

I had no idea Ive was going to be working on the OS. That'll be cool. If they truly update their OS and become less restrictive with content I'd definitely switch back in a heartbeat.

When Forstall was fired, Ive took over as "Director of Human Interface" or some such. Basically he's in charge of all of the outward facing design elements of Apple products now. The story is that he and Forstall did not like each other and Ive hated a lot of iOS design elements -- most notably the use of skeuomorphism. It's not clear how drastic his changes will be at this point.
