agree.....caught a announcer statement during the Pats/Houston game----he stated how the Pats will see a weakness on the other team and go after and keep going after it......

Dont see that here, one could almost say players were not put in postion most likely to suceed, Garrett feels his system is stronger than scheme at the other teams weakness's

That's why I still love the 4-3...

Default I say..

we go back to the 'flex defense'.

Worked as a 4-3 and one of the best 4-3 ever created. A few new wrinkles and a new facelift and we can call it the 'fedora' defense instead of the 'Cover 2'.

Your welcome, Tom Landry, wherever you are.

In 2012, Ware played 896 snaps against passes and was asked to drop into coverage 64 times (seven percent of the time). Spencer went into coverage almost 20 percent of the time (172 out of 872 passing plays). 4-3 defensive ends, on the other hand, almost never drop into coverage (Ware was in coverage once all season from a 4-3 DE position). In other words, in a passing league in which defensive priority one must be to put pressure on a quarterback, a scheme in which the players who are most likely to do that can't be in position to do so is, frankly, suicide.

Great stuff. I was one that thought RR deserved another year, but oh well. To go along with this very topic...Sterling Sharpe on NFL Network, a few weeks back, put together several of the big plays that were hit against Dallas this year, and of the big plays that were shown, each one had something in common: Rob Ryan's defense trying to be cute. Either a guy you want rushing the QB was in coverage or having Ware on some stunt and just missing the QB. (Sharpe's contention was when you have D Ware, give him the straightest line to the QB).

Our Defense is too Complex. We need to simplify it. Exit Ryan.

Enter Kiffin.

Our Defense is too Simple. Offenses can read us like a book. We need to make it more Complex. Exit Kiffin.

Enter .... fill in the dot.

At least in Ryan's case he had to work guys in who were sitting at home on Monday and lining up later that week on Sunday. Expecting flawlessness from a defense that was pulling guys off the street to replace the guys they had previously pulled off the street is a bit much. Was there more than anyone would want to see? Probably. But all things considered, I'm not sure this is a real reason why he should have been fired or could even be counted as a significant component.

Great post, thanks for all of the information.

The not in meetings PR exit wounds are kind of funny.

Right or Wrong firing Ryan is what it is. And me for one i dont really care anymore. He's old news and its on to better things, like watching Ware rush the passer 100% of the time. The prospect of seeing Ratliff not having to take on double teams. Seeing a more fluid defensive scheme. I just hope changes are made to the offensive philosophy aswell.

Interesting that you dismiss every other "rumor" out there, but slide right up to the ones that fit your agenda.

Ultimately, I don't care if it's 34, 43, 07, 70 etc etc etc

As long as you put the good coaches they will teach players to do whatever you ask them. RR to me was all talk and no end product...I credit most of the defensive performances the team produced to the players more than DC..

I like the hire of Kiffin and I hope we now have a coach who will actually teach players how to preform at their best... looking forward for the Doomsday Defense to finally be back...

I am looking forward switch to the 4-3. 3-4 gives up a lot of running yards unless you have a big butt NT that is a stud in there.

I'm so glad that blowhard is out of here. And I'm glad our players can now play their natural positions.

How many times did we see three guys rushing the QB in a game? Too many.

How many times did we see Ware or Spencer 15 yards downfield chasing a tight end in coverage? Too many.

How many times did we see guys running on and off the field and fail to get lined up? Too many.

How many exotic blitzes got to the QB? Hardly any.

And how many sacks and turnovers did Ryan's defense create? Not nearly enough.

If there was any credibility at all to that rumour he wouldn't have been immediately snapped up by the Rams. Obviously RHG gave Rob a good reference.
