Default Worst Team Name Ever: New Orleans Pelicans

What a horrid name. Hornets wasn't too bad but Pelicans is just awful. I feel like I upchuck just a bit every time I say it.

I realize they can't be the Jazz but find something that fits. I think Utah should just donate the name to save the NBA the embarrassment of having a team called the Pelicans.

They could have been anything and it probably wouldn't have been worse.

New Orleans Bayou and the mascot could be Swampthing. Or just be The Swampmonsters, anything.

Would be a great name if for a minor league baseball team, NBA, not so much, heh.

The worst ever is the original name considered for the Dallas Cowboys...

The Dallas Steers...

A steer is a castrated bull...

The pelican is the state bird of Louisana, so I could see that one...

Thankfully Dallas didn't go with the steers.

And state bird or not, it's awful. I doubt we'll see any team adopt the Woodpecker or Hummingbird as their mascot.......if there are states that have those.....because those names sound awful.

Going to be horrible for clothing sales. No one wants to wear crud with a pelican name or bird on it. It sounds dumb, looks dumb....whoever is making this decision is clueless.

If your state bird was the dodo bird...wouldn't make that a good name either. This is so dumb.

my little league baseball team in Louisiana was the Pelicans. We were proud too.

If they were really wanting a creature indigenous to Louisiana as the team's mascot, why not go with "Inbred Alcoholics"?

I like that logo if you call the team the Nighthawks and replace the bird.

New Orleans Nighthawks

better than anything they came up with on their own.
