C'mon, really? The Switzer argument?

Gruden has never had a decent QB in his career, yet has gone to Championship games and won a SB. Garrett has never not had a bona fide QB in his career and can't get to the playoffs in a crappy division.

The two aren't even comparable right now. Maybe Garrett gets there some day, but you have a closing window on this team with Romo and Ware. This is not the place or the team for learn on the job.

Gruden is 3 years older than Garrett. And already has more coaching experience than Garrett may likely have over his entire coaching career.

Sure - but I don't think you can discount that Garrett was playing in the NFL for many of those years.

The only person that doesn't seem like a total coincidence is Bisaccia. But, Garrett played in Tampa so he's familiar with all 3 coaches.

I just don't see why they would wait to hire Gruden. Perhaps they are trying to persuade Gruden, although I think it will take more than getting a D-Coordinator that he supposedly doesn't talk to anymore and a Special Teams coach back.

When he won the SB, he had the #1 defense in the league. Offense was middle of the pack. Does that make him an offensive genius?

IMO the "big" changes are already made and JG's here for the rest of next season. If we start out 2-6 (looking awful), JG will be fired at the break and Callahan will resume coaching duties the rest of the year, then we'll go after a big name HC like Grud.
If next year goes like this one,(competitive but no playoffs), JG's gone. If we barely make the playoffs and lose bad, JG's gone. If we make the playoffs and compete well or win first playoff game then JG will be back.
Either way it's a good strategy for JJ. It keeps the pressure/camera on JG throughout the year as a "walkaround coach/motivator" who has to deliver this year or else. A lot of people and press do not see JG as this kind of coach so all eyes/cameras will be watching him. If JG is not successful (given all the rope JJ has supposably provided) from the past 3-6 years, JJ has full fan support into firing JG.
JJ will look like hero if JG is successful (and should) however he will also look like a hero if not succesful, by bringing in a new big name coach.
Either way for the next 2 years, fans are still engaged and buying into the circus.

Anyone can feel however they like but there are facts that require zero feelings involved.

This staff has ties to Gruden that go far beyond typical 5 degrees of NFL separation stuff.

We all know Holmgren is a major player in Jerry's ear. And Gruden was a Holmgren disciple.

Gruden has won the division 5 times in 11 years as a head coach. And he has never been considered to have great talent on those teams. He has a .550 win clip in the NFL playoffs. With of course one Lombardi to his credit.

Kiffin and Callahan actually have VERY high opinions of Gruden as they have shared with the media.

Gruden is a volunteer coach at his sons High School. His son graduates this year.
