Well, yeah, he was better than our replacement. Just like when Garrett let go of Gurode, Leonard Davis, Patrick Crayton, Robinson. This offense seems to be about talent disposition than talent acquisition.

He really wasn't much better than the replacements. Just a better (inline) blocker.
Getting rid of Gurode, Davis, and Crayton were not mistakes. Robinson we obviously didn't want to lose, but keeping him at market rate would have been a bigger mistake than letting him walk.
There are better things to complain about than these issues.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Leonard Davis was better than Berny. But they both sucked.

God, no, he wasn't. Davis was a disaster, and he had to be let go. Bernardeau was a serviceable starter once he finally got healthy and sufficient starters' snaps by the end of the season.

What a waste of a 2nd rounder that guy was.

Not saying I wish we had Bennett back, because I was absolutely ready to see him go. And no, weren't a dominating running team last year when he was here, and we definitely need better OL. But our run game was even worse this past year than it was the previous 2-3, and one of the reasons was the lack of blocking from the TE spot, which Bennett provided very well. Regardless of play calling duties, if we continue to employ 12 personnel on a significant basis, we need a better blocking TE.
Not saying it's the most pressing need, but a need nonetheless.
There's always more to the story.

I suspect any team who transitions from a 6 OL scheme to a 5 OL would miss having that 6th man no matter who he was.

if we had a good enough O line we would not need a pass blocking specialist TE

True, but we don't. And we haven't. It would be nice if we did, but as long we don't, we need a blocking TE. And it's always nice to have one in short yardage situations, too.

BS. You can use your swing tackle on a situation like that. There is never - or should NEVER be a need to have a pass blocking specialist TE if you have a good team.
