From a man who was notoriously quiet and somewhat camera and media shy an incredible legend grew about his exploits on the field.

These exploits were spoken from viewing film, ex- teammates testimony, opposing players testimony and media annoucers gushing over isolation film on the man.

To me this is what true greatness is. When you don't have to say a word on your behalf because the roar from the masses is overwhelming.

We don't hear about stories of Ogden, Sapp or Strahan, but there are some incredible stories of Larry.

In some ways legend is greatness. That's why we still wax eloquently about the Babe calling his own HR or the famed "Win one for the Gipper" scene.

Default An homage to Larry Allen
I like to think I can step back assess things dispassionately, objectively. And, to me, it's readily apparent- and even clearer upon reflection- that Larry Allen's ample body of work screams 1st ballot HOF honoree. He dominated his opponents in the trenches as few lineman have and helped cleared a path for the league's all time leading rusher. Are not his HOF merits clear to these weasels? The entire institution will debase itself if they fail to recognize the obvious.

And I think the specter of his acceptance speech should tip the balance in his favor for any fencesitters as I have a feeling he'll leave plenty of time for other, more verbose recipients. Here is a man who truly and properly laid out his compelling case on the field of battle. He needs no lofty words of validation.

Free Larry Allen. Let him go.

I wouldn't call Jimmy a failure in Miami. He finished 36-28 with 2 playoff wins in Miami.

Flores really doesn't have a good case or at least as good as Jimmy. He was a failure in Seattle after leaving the Raiders. In 4 seasons in Seattle he was 14-34

The sight of him makes me ill, but I wouldn't argue with Strahan getting in. Although, in my opinion, the single season sack record should never be mentioned as one of the reasons. Favre laying down to give him the record was a disgrace. Not really Strahan's fault but that really bothered me.

Allen was the best guard I have ever seen. He completely destroyed the man across from him. Journeymen and pro bowlers alike.

Allen is just on a whole other level from Strahan and Sapp.

Regardless, the HOF is a joke that has become more about rewarding long term stats vs. players who were elite. The HOF is really just a lifetime achievement award for pro bowl types, instead of an enshrinement of the few elite, game changing players who shaped the history of the NFL. IMO, it just isn't what it should be.

IMO, there aren't more than a handful of current players who should eventually be HOFers, yet dozens of them will make it in.

The Cowboys weren't contenders under Parcells. No division titles, no playoff wins.
