I disagree. I think Arkin has some talent. We shall see.

Taking flyers on 4th rounder Guards, you should be able to get a backup Guard with a 4th round pick. Funny to hear how the tune changes once reality sets in. There is some fatal flaw in how Dallas approaches OL in the draft and their value on the team.

David Arkin - G - Cowboys
Owner Jerry Jones was "real impressed" by rookie LG David Arkin in Thursday's preseason opener.
Jones insists there would be no hesitation to start Arkin as well as rookie RT Tyron Smith up front in Week 1. The coaches like Arkin's tenacity and his ability to pull out on run blocks. He's battling veteran Montrae Holland (back) for the starting job.

David Arkin - G - Cowboys
The Cowboys' official website feels that G David Arkin is not a lock for the 2012 roster.
The team's fourth-round pick a year ago was unable to deliver when given an opportunity to start in the pre-season, and ended up not playing a single snap during the regular season. The Cowboys are expected add depth to the offensive line via this month's draft, which would put Arkin squarely on the roster bubble.

David Arkin - G - Cowboys
ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins projects 2011 fourth-round pick David Arkin as the Cowboys' Week 1 starter at right guard.
While it makes sense in light of Mackenzy Bernadeau's recent hip surgery, the projection is notable because the Cowboys' website has projected Arkin as a bubble player in training camp. Arkin has some intriguing tools, but the organization believed he "wasn't physically ready for the NFL" in 2011. The Cowboys' interior offensive line could be a trouble spot in 2012.

Just bring em all to training camp and see what happens.

I was listening to Talkin' Cowboys once and Mickey asked Broaddus about Leary and Broaddus actually laughed out loud.

We've got some stars in house guys, we don't need to draft oline!

You make a strong argument.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

How did you evaluate his talent, exactly? It's not like he could beat out a castaway from the Bengals or a guy who never started.

I don't think we can expect anything at this point. Hopefully, he works hard this offseason to overcome his deficiences and fulfills his potential. But at this point, that's all it is ... hope.

Rogers was injured. Totally different situation.

Arkin had scouts report he looked strong. He looked that way because he played against weak competition. Whenever you draft small school guys-particularly later round picks-you expect they need strength work.

You do know you can't just throw out some name and expect that it is relevant to your argument, right?

I have to agree with "Wolfpack"; Arkin has to show something in camp or he is gone. Our scouting of the offensive line needs to be examined. We need to up grade the line in order to take advantage of the skill players we have on Offence.

From what I remember his school had no WT program or strenght coach. They barely had a weight room. SO it was thought he would need at least a year to gain strength and maybe two. But nothing so far. Beginning to look like even the Great God Woicik can do nothing for him.

To me, it really comes down to this. We need a massive improvement from the offensive line next season and keeping project offensive linemen with "maybe" potential on the roster is just not worth the gamble.

It is rare that a project offensive linemen ever develops into a dominant starter. At best, they will end up a solid starter, but the chances of that are rather slim. When you have a solid starting offensive line, you can afford to keep one or two project offensive linemen on the team, but we don't have that luxury. Now if Arkin can be put on the practice squad, then perhaps they can keep him around a little longer. Otherwise, I just don't see the Cowboys keeping him around.

I hope that is not your actual position.

The cost to keep them through training camp is minimal, and we have no real replacements (at least for Costa). Nor will their presence on the roster restrain the Cowboys one iota from bringing in possible replacements through free agency or the draft.

February is not the time for releasing minimum-cost players.

At some point the roster can become overcrowded at a position or a player can become a progress-stopper for a better prospect. We are not at either of those points, yet.

It's been long enough. Either he starts throwing guys around in July or he hits the bricks.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.
