Default DC.COM: How Close Can Witten Get To Other Gonzalez TE Records?

Rowan Kavner
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas – One mark stood above the various accolades and achievements earned by Jason Witten this season.

In addition to taking home the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award and the Bob Lilly Award, and setting the Cowboys’ record for all-time receptions, Witten also set the single-season tight end record for receptions in a season with 110.

Breaking any tight end record set by Tony Gonzalez is an almost unachievable feat, and it will take a special finish to Witten’s career for the Pro Bowler to reach the other major records held by Gonzalez.

Witten’s 110 receptions broke his personal best of 96 catches, set in 2007, and surpassed the previous top mark held by Gonzalez, who finished the 2004 season with 102 catches.

If he does or doesn't break those records fine. What I want most is him and Dware to retire with Super Bowl rings.

Hear! Hear!
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

They both came in at 21.

Witten is at 10 years. Gonzalez did 16.

Year for year Witten has more yards. 8710 to 8948. Though he has 10 less touchdowns.
In the final two months of 2011, Romo’s passer rating was 115.9.

He's still ahead of Gonzalez' pace, at least.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Witten isn't targeted enough near the goal line for him to break the TD record. Is he used more as a blocker there? He has a more than legitimate shot at receiving and yardages records though. I'd love to see them go to him more often in the endzone.

Yeah, of course. He's got no shot at that one.

He won't break it if he has to get to the end zone from farther than 10 yards. Witten is white boy slow.
