What round was Tunini drafted in?
How was Nate Newton acquired?
Stepnoski?
Gogan?
Eric Williams?
That was most of the line for 2 of the 3 SB's. We added Larry Allen (2nd round) and got the third ring.
But most of the OL play from 90's were not done by 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounders.

I don't at all. I was pointing out how Jerry probably see's things.
With the 18th pick, I would draft Jonathan Cooper.

As we celebrate this holiday known as National Signing Day, it brings me back to a day or two last March.
The fax machines were blowing up with contract offers here at Valley Ranch. The Cowboys got Brandon Carr and Kyle Orton, followed by Nate Livings and Dan Connor. From a free agency standpoint, the Cowboys were one of most aggressive teams last year and jumped right in the mix early.
Hope that was fun for the fans. Don’t expect that to happen this year when free agency begins in mid-March.
In fact, do you remember what happened in 2010? Of course you don’t because nothing happened, other than re-signing unrestricted free agent Montrae Holland to a two-year deal about a month into free agency. But that was it.

I don't expect us to sign anywhere near as many FAs this year, but I won't be surprised if Jerry makes at least one splash ... probably a DL (although I wish he'd throw in an OL as well).

Given how fragile Austin is, hope there's room in the budget for an inexpensive FA vet depth WR on a 1-year deal. Maybe reclamation projects like Donald Jones or David Nelson would come cheap.

What scares me about the WR position is we don't really have any legit potential down the road starter on the depth chart. Harris, Beasley, Coale are all slot types. So if Austin goes down, we really don't have a guy to plug in without limiting the offense.
It's way down on the needs list but a WR with some size is needed.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Yeah! Though comparing pre-salary cap drafting to post salary cap drafting doesn't mesh well either.

I'm not expecting any big splashes but I think they're going to add ball players. There won't be any big splashes, or big names, or fancy moves but ball players are going to be added.
Which is fine by me. Get this team some solid, hard working, players to add depth and some playmaking ability when they're on the field and continue to build.

I'm guessing they will look at OT, OC/G, CB and S first in FA. I'm hoping for an OT.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

still ticked about two things. One, the stupid mishandling of the salary cap by Dallas. That not only is resulting in the predicament this season but the penalty for Austin's contract.
Two, Orton. Why the heck did Dallas pay that much money for a backup QB when the resources were needed for the offensive line?

and on two. A better O line means the need for a backup QB is much less

i disagree
i think jerry knows HIS clock is ticking just as much as romo's clock is ticking, hence these wholesale changes in coaching
i think he will go for it more than people think
we should sign one OL and one DL, i dont know if they will be "splashes" but both should have real starter potential (unlike livings and bern)
this would free us up to not reach but stick with our board in the draft
The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars but in ourselves. Shakespeare
think about it...
if our GM gets fired he will not get another job as GM
if our director of pro-personnel gets fired he will not get another job as that in the NFL
if our HC gets fired he will not get another job as HC in the NFL
ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE IN POSITION ONLY BECAUSE JERRY IS THE OWNER AND GM
and not one of them is qualified to do the job they are doing

I think you answered your own question. With the OL issues they probably didn't expected Tony to complete the season on the field. Closed door meeting.......

I don't have a problem with the Orton signing at all from last year.
This year, I think we will add around 3-4 guys via FA. Not splash players like Carr, but more of the blue collar, solid guys. And maybe take a flyer on a couple of guys who were thought to be washed up like Sims (at LB) too.
It was very interesting was Kiffen said in one of his interviews. Basically, quite a few of the guys they picked up on defense at TB were not big names whatsoever in FA. Very much middle-of-the road type players who fit the scheme.

I think if we are smart we will tie up Spencer one way or another and look to a Bernadeux-type deal for a young OL player.
And please -- don't make this a "we can't afford Spencer" thread. Enough of that already.
