Going by Spotrac,
He received a 4 million SB with an 8 million guaranteed contract.

He also received 2.8 total salary from 2011 and 2012 which would leave 1.2 of his 3.0 million base salary in 2013 guaranteed.

4.0 + 2.8 = 6.8
8.0 - 6.8 = 1.2

The prorated signing bonus will be 2.4 million and has 1.2 left guaranteed. That's a 3.6 cap hit if released. Also you do count 2011 since it wad an extension and is psrt of the length of contract.

No, just because 2011 is part of the contract, does not mean that it is part of the guaranteed money. They can choose to guarantee any year that they choose and not guarantee any year that they choose. For example, the year 2014 is part of the contract and it is NOT guaranteed.

Including 2011 in the guaranteed money would be meaningless when the contract was signed in December of that year.

The remaining prorated signing bonus is 2.4M. If released as a June 1 player, the cap hit from the remaining prorated signing bonus would be:
2013: 1.2M
2014: 1.2M


They can't split the guaranteed base with a June 1 designation; therefore, adding in the 3M guaranteed base salary, you have:

The only reason the 2014 isn't guarnteed is because after 2013 all 8 million has been paid. 1.2 million left in guarntees and his salary is 3 million in 2013. simple math

where did you get this info because its wrong, You do not put what year is guaranteed and whats not. You guaranteeing 8 million then your first 8 million is all you get. It was an extension not a new contract so that counts in the overall contract. same with Church new contract. They took an extra 2 million hit this year after extending Church.

2011 year counted. He signed a 6 year deal, it was a 5 year extension.

2011 salary 1.8 million
2012 salary 1 million
2011 plus 2012= 2.8 million plus the 4 million = 6.8 million

I do happen to have a post from Adam last year about Gerald Sensabaugh that I saved when projecting the 2012 Cowboys' cap.

Gerald Sensabaugh got a $4 million signing bonus. His base salaries are $1 million for 2012, $3 million for 2013, $4 million for 2014, $4 million for 2015 and $6.5 million for 2016.

His cap number for 2012 is $1.8 million.

His base salaries in 2012 and 2013 are guaranteed for injury and become fully guaranteed for that season if he is on the roster on the first day of that league year. That means he'll almost certainly be here for 2012, but we could release him between the end of the 2012 season and the start of the 2013 league year to save cap room, if he isn't worth a $3 million salary for 2013.

So Sensabaugh's 2012 and 2013 base salaries were guaranteed for injury but only become fully guaranteed if he is on the roster at the start of the new league year.

So it looks like Dallas can release him this year, if desired.

It just has to be done before the new league year starts March 12th.

I don't know if the team will cut Sensabaugh loose with Barry Church coming off an Achilles' and Matt Johnson remaining a mystery.
