Why are you even here? It's February and you can't take one ounce of optimism about the next season. These are good coaches with good track records and they are excited about being here. Fans are by definition "homers", don't know what that makes guys like you.

A great read with true perspective about the real culture within Valley Ranch.

Thanks for posting!
Does he have some kind of access that other media members dont have?

When it comes to culture, I tend to believe the former players that have played for the Cowboys recently.

What Brady James and others have said. It doesn't suit your agenda, but the players know what it is like.

You actually contradict yourself in the thread title.

Rod Marinelli is an excellent defensive coach. Former Marine/Vietnam veteran and he really had the Bears creating turnovers last year. He will bring an enthusiasm and a form of incentive to get this team flying around the ball on defense.
I seem to recall watching a Bears game this last season and the color guy was explaining how Marinelli grades his defensive players. If you do not hustle he will make sure you know about it and he is very creative in rewarding his players who do. I'm not talking about a bounty system either.

But the points you make are rather weak ones for actual Cowboys fans who pay attention.

Kiffin did architect some great NFL defenses but he was most recently abused in the Pac 12. And for 5 years. He created the zone scheme Tampa 2 and we are actually unlikely to use that. We are mostly likely going to use a Seattle over 4-3 scheme with man coverage. So it isn't really what Kiffin is known for. Though at 72 you can bet he has seen a little bit of everything.

Marinelli, who really is very coveted; turned down a DC job in Chicago because they just fired his best friend in coaching. And we gave him the Asst Head Coach title here. He is the de facto DC in waiting.

Auburn is really struggling and that job may well be a 1 year deal. The SEC is big-time but it doesn't compare to the same title in the NFL.

Did Kiffin get abused by the NCAA or by Oregon?

I don't watch NCAA football so I really do not know.

Its not about agreeing or disagreeing. It about looking at things realistically rather than filtering everything thru a particular skewed perspective and then slanting it to fit that imagined perspective.

I don't follow USC either, but it did seem that he had problems with a number of offenses last year.

They don't have to do much slanting. There is plenty of negative topics that they can report about on the current team. If anything, your problem is the lack of positive reporting. An 8-8 team should have equal amounts of both. I don't think the media makes up negative topics. They don't have to with this team.

I recall Kiffin had a good year I think his first at USC. More likely that the talent just did not line up right.

Or it could be that like some coaches he just was not good at the College Level.

Just like a number of college coaches never do well in the pros

Kiffin's defense only gave up 730 yards to Oregon last year.
Ivy League

Jason Garrett offense rank minus Tony Sparano: 18, 14, 7, 15, 15

You are correct that this 8-8 team has enough negatives to discuss w/o making any up.

However, when you say the media doesnt make any negative topics up, well, that is just a tad naive IMO.
