Jones Said Cowboys Can Get Under Cap Without Romo Deal

INDIANAPOLIS – The main purpose of the combine is to evaluate players for the upcoming draft, which is still about two months away.

A deadline that is approaching much quicker and could be even more important is March 12, the first day of the new league year. That’s the start of the free-agent signing period and when the Cowboys must get under the salary cap. Currently the team is about $20 million over.

But again, whether it’s Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones or even Jason Garrett, who admits he doesn’t get directly involved in those decisions, no one seems too concerned about the cap situation.

The spencer tidbits have been talked about in other threads that are about the Spencer Situation. There is nothing new in that article concerning that topic.

Since the article was titled to talk about Romo and his current contract situation...that is what people wish to talk about in this thread.

How does saying that Jerry wears him underwear backwards equate to discussing Romo's contract? Seriously, despite the "enough is enough" post, every thread lately has been dominated by relentless coaching and GM bashing, which would be fine if there was any substance to the bashing, but usually it just entails unfunny cliches. Oh, and I hadn't seen the Spencer info despite reading this board everyday, so I'm sure it was new info to others as well.

They CAN get under the cap without redoing Romo, but it will cost them either an OG/S/DT in Free Agency. We need at least one mid level FA and a couple bargain guys. Clearing $5-6M off Romo's cap number is pretty important. It also means there won't be enough cap space to franchise and trade Spencer. It's either let him walk or sign a discount deal.

Spencer could excel in a 4/3, otherwise you let him walk.
