I've got a 22oz Arrogant ******* in my fridge waiting for me. That's a good one. If you like hoppy beer that is. If you don't you are going to puke.
Nocal has a ton of great breweries that I favor -- North Coast, Mendocino, Lagunitas. Also, this season brings the joy of Winter beers, barleywines, and other special brews.
But really, the best brew is always a fresh one that was made close to where it was served. Most microbrew pubs are going to have something that beats the tar out of anything in a bottle.

Samuel Adams Black Lager is my current fav. Tried that for the first time the other night and was highly impressed. It's got some sweet overtones, but man, it's good stuff.

Sam Adams is pretty good stuff. The winter ale is solid as well as the summer ale. Its not my favorite, but every Sam Adams I have had is, at the least, drinkable.

I couldn't possibly pick just one. The bar I go to most often has over 100 beers on tap and over 220 beers available. I typically select some Belgian beer, most likely a golden ale such as Duvel.
