If Flowers allows Jenkins, McKelvin or Talib to be available when we pick, then he is the greatest corner EVER.

Im really not a fan of Talib. I think the other two would be good pickups but Im just not on the Talib wagon.

With the depth and talent of this years class compared to the 2007 and 2006 class it's very likely as many as 10-13 corners could be taken in the first 2 rounds and Flowers is with out a doubt in the top 13 corners.
As far as Mayocks rankings, he is not the only "expert" that has him rated that high.
Russ Lande for the previous three years, was a college scout for the Cleveland Browns; covering the mid-west region while evaluating all eligible prospects for the NFL Draft. He also covered all-star games, the NFL Combine and pro days. He ranks Flowers 3rd among CB's behind Jenkins and McKelvin.
Frantzy Jourdain who worked 6 years as a talent scout for the Patriots and now works as a independant scout ranks Flowers 2nd behind Jenkins.
Gary Horton is a fromer Cleveland Browns scout and not assists for TSN ranks Flowers 4th among CB's.

Speed and quickness are so important for CBs; as well as very limber hips. After that its all in the head. I think that the evaluations made right after the college season are more straightforward; now people start to factor in pro days and the combine and lose sight of the fact that game film tells more of the tale then all the others.

I am a big VA Tech fan and when I watch his play.......Flowers is confident, cocky, and hits hard.......I admit to beling surprised that he is an overall #1 corner but not by a whole lot......he is TOUGH

Sometimes I think there is a legit reason to weigh the combine along with the tale of the tape.
I think is not the norm but there are times when you have to judge a players speed because you just don't know how he will do vs top talent if he played at a smaller school or against some competition that is not great.
We have seen many good corners that play great in college but the speed of the nfl just blows them away.
Of course the opposite is even more telling IMO. If a guy has pure speed to burn but does not have the instincts or abilities ...scouts will put too much import on their combine numbers. I think that happens more than the other way around.
But...there are times where I think looking at the combine numbers of some players are a legit thing that can help.

So true, we'll see a bunch of movement after the combine/pro days.

I think Flowers is a really good corner who on the next level could be a star in this league. His tackling ability and instincts puts him ahead of guys like Porter, Jackson, Godfrey. but I wouldn't put him ahead of Cromartie, Jenkins, Talb or McKelvin just yet.

Flowers played with VT against serious competition; that should be the marker against which he is judged. ALL too many put too much emphasis on the combine; it is a valid operation but too much importance is placed on what guys do in shorts and track shoes.

I think the one thing that the combine does that is hard to argue against is the idea of the medical exams.
I also find it amazing how the results are kept so quiet for the most part.
We see someone drop every year and most don't have a clue why until we find out later that their were some red flag medical issues at the combine.
Once again, that does not always work, but the combine does serve it's purpose...it is the scouts, gms and owners that ultimately should be accountable after that.

I've never watched Flowers, but isn't his speed and quickness in question? I'd ask people to think about when a corner with questions like that was ever the best corner in his class. Most often, those guys end up like Antrelle Rolle.
In this league, you almost have to have truly great -- not good -- athleticism to excel at corner.

ROTFL
I see SOME people didnt watch a VA Tech game this year.
The toothbrush had to be invented in West Virginia, if it was created anywhere else it would have been called a teethbrush.

It doesn't matter where all these guys have him ranked, the only expert that counts is our very own, thegoat, I mean theogt.
If he says that Flowers is a 3rd rounder, then that's the end of the argument.
Don't bother with Kiper or Mayock, or even Goose...........if you want the real scoop, just come to this board and ask thegoat. He will set you straight.

Flowers is the best pure cover corner in the draft. he has great hips and has enough speed and quicks to stay with his man. he is also physical.
"I don't want to step somewhere and have someone beat me," Romo said. "I don't want to go out there and have someone say we're better than you. That part of it irks me a little bit from the fact that you want to be able to stand up and say, 'We did good today. We won. We did what we were supposed to do.' It's a lot more enjoyable.
