Buffalo Bills 2008 Draft

• Pick No. 11: Buffalo Bills select Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
Pro analysis: Buffalo failed to backfill at cornerback after losing Nate Clements a year ago, so McKelvin definitely patches a hole. He still needs some polish defensively, but McKelvin should immediately make an impact in the return game, a la Devin Hester. It's worth noting that Buffalo's other corner, Terrence McGee, is also an excellent return man, though not a lockdown defensive back. Does McGee return kickoffs and McKelvin punts? Or Does McGee become trade bait? Stay tuned ...
College analysis: The Bills are getting two players in one with McKelvin. After the Troy cornerback stopped opposing wide receivers, he then became one of the nation's top punt returners. McKelvin had three touchdowns and finished fourth in the country in yards per return. Playing in the Sun Belt Conference didn?t allow McKelvin to face elite wide receivers on a consistent basis, so he may face a larger-than-normal learning curve in the NFL.
• Pick No. 41: Buffalo Bills select James Hardy, WR, Indiana
Pro analysis: A run on Hoosiers as the Bills wisely wait until Round 2 to get their desired wingman for Lee Evans. Hardy is an enormous target (6-6), size he used to employ on the basketball court in Bloomington, Ind. Hardy should make an immediate impact in the red zone. He'll need to be more consistent outside the 20-yard lines, though, and he has had off-field issues. Still, second-year QB Trent Edwards will take all the help he can get.
